termninja 5,290
My point was that after watching the irreplaceable (ability and status wise) Raul don that shirt for the whole of his career, there's a certain aura attached to it. And I disagree about him being just another player wearing it, imo the fact that the Raul wore that shirt makes that number special, not the other way round. Maybe had Ronaldo gotten the shirt after an interval of say 5 or 7 years, it would be less of an eyesore.7 was Ronaldo's number while he was at Manchester United and CR7 comes from there. He is so obsessed with it that he has it on the bottom of his pool. He is an amazing footbaler who brought a lot of publicity, success and money to Real and he is their leader. For me, he has deserved to have his favorite number.

LDN Blue 7,903
Such a leadet hahahahaha. Raul won them many trophies, while cr hasn't.So that's why he shouldn't get the 7?I read up on this.. La Liga's rules state teams must present the numbers 1-25 to players. It's makes more than enough sense that their record breaker takes it. Edited December 27, 2011 by RZA

TacticalBlues 2,817
Where did I disrespect him?My point was that after watching the irreplaceable (ability and status wise) Raul don that shirt for the whole of his career, there's a certain aura attached to it. And I disagree about him being just another player wearing it, imo the fact that the Raul wore that shirt makes that number special, not the other way round. Maybe had Ronaldo gotten the shirt after an interval of say 5 or 7 years, it would be less of an eyesore.True but the same could be said for Nuri Sahin wearing Zizou's number 5 shirt, Benzema wearing Ronaldo's number 9 and Pepe wearing Roberto Carlos' number 3 !!! . And anyways Ronaldo isn't doing Raul disservice we're talking of a player that broke Telmo Zarra and Hugo Sanchez's goal scoring record and is considered to be in the top 2 players in the world today! At the end of the day we can go on forever with the amount of legends Real had lol
Amblève. 4,995
Numbers have lost its' symbolism. They've become just a business like every other part of football and that's the only reason why it's comprehensible that C. Ronaldo wears number 7 at Real Madrid. If numbers wouldn't make such an impact on sales and so on, there would be no way why he would have deserved to wear Raul's legendary jersey number. TacticalBlues 2,817
As big as those players were, nobody comes close to what Raul meant for Madrid, as any Madrista would be happy to tell you.I've got loads of Madrista friends who hold the likes of Carlos, Zidane and Ronaldo is similar esteem. I've always supported Madrid in Spain, since a lot of their players were icons too me. I know he went through the Madrid youth, but it's not as if its a 25 - 7 pretty generic, and always regarded highly. Raul did make it his own for many years, but the most expensive signing for Madrid, someone who's broken LEGENDS goal-scoring records and is regarded as one of the best players in the world is a respectful homage wouldn't you say? LDN Blue 7,903
Like I said earlier, in time maybe. The problem is, La Liga's rules of assigning the numbers 1-25 to players. Otherwise maybe Real would've waited?
BlueLion. 21,491
It's Toddy Kane :D Edit: He's changed it to Drogba now lol but it was Kane beforeYeah haha, I did have Mourinho, then Piazon, then Kane, now Drogba. I keep them the same for a couple of months then change it about 25 times in the space of an hour.

Otherwise maybe Real would've waited? No, they can't refuse anything to the guy they paid £80m. Plus, if I remind well, I think it was an agreement that he would have the number 7 when Raul leaves/retires.

Peace. 4,352
Oh really? Didn't know that!I am not really sure. I just got the feeling I read this all over papers during the summer when he was transfered. And it wouldn't surprising, when you try to buy the current Ballon d'Or, you'd better satisfy him.
