Essien should stay in DM, in my opinion he wastes more chances than anyone when he goes forward, the odd shot he will get on target and in the net but more than often he just wellies it over the bar. He's better just sitting back and creating the attack.

I agree but if you're judging that from the Man City game (where he evidently forgot to bring his shooting boots), you have to appreciate he was trying to play the Lampard role and do what Frank does; the problem is no-one can do what Frank does and we need him back asap.

Once Lampard or Benayoun is back we'll see Essien stop trying to do the long shots. He did it against City because he realised that's the only way we could have a shot, the City defence was too strong for us to try and play our way into a goal, so like BL said he shouldn't be judged on that.

Theres already a midfielder that stays back: Mikel. Besides, Essien is one of the best box to box midfielders so it`s a shame if we let him sit back.
