Didier Drogba named by Time as one of the world's 100 most influential people

Didier Drogba has joined such iconic figures as Muhammad Ali and Michael Jordan in becoming one of the few sportsmen to have appeared on the front cover of Time magazine.

"The Time 100 is not about the influence of power but the power of influence. Some of the people you'll encounter on this list are influential in the traditional sense - we also seek out people whose ideas and actions are revolutionising their fields and transforming lives," said Time managing editor Richard Stengel.

Drogba, who will represent the Ivory Coast at this summer's World Cup, appears in the 100 list alongside Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, Sachin Tendulkar and Simon Cowell.

Tremendous accolade for a tremendous human being. The man is utterly dedicated to his charity work, his efforts to help those living in poverty in Africa is much needed and raises awarness of the problem in our countries. On top of his charity work and his work at home, Drogba is the face of African football at a time when the World Cup will be held in Africa for the first time, for the entire Africa nation is monumentous. On top of all of his good work, he is one of, if not thee, greatest striker on the planet and he uses his fame from football for very worthy causes. Congratulations Didier Drogba.

i think thats brilliant Well done Droggy

i watched a documentary the other day about him and his influence in Ivory Coast - the word icon doens't really justify his pressence there

he gets a presidential welcome whenever he goes back and when he's there there is no North/South divide - people come together just for him

watching that made me so proud to have him in my team (no matter how much he frustrates me on the field sometimes)

i think he's going to go the same route as George Weah and go into Ivorian politics when he's done with football
