There is no connection between Rangers and Chelsea! Yes they both wear blue and played a good friednly match. Maybe the fans got on, but there is no connection! This annoys me how Rangers fans suck up to Chelsea. Being from Scotland, this annoys me more lol. Rangers fans are idiots to be honest lol. Does this annoy anyone else?

"The link with Chelsea was further cemented when Rangers and Chelsea played a friendly in the early 80's. The two sets of fans got on famously, and the return game was attended by thousands of Rangers supporters. The link is most certainly not as strong as it was, as the two supports diversify and develop, but there was most certainly a time when there was lots of mutual friendships through football. Linfield, Rangers and Chelsea had a mag dedicated to the three teams, which also was in curculation about 25 years ago called the Blues Brothers."

Found this, could this help out?

I really never got the connection tbh...

There is, or at least there was some sort of connection between Chelsea, Rangers and Linfield - around Loyalism weren't it?

Also read something about that, whatever it was, there's not much left of it

They played each other is a hastily arranged friendly at The Bridge to raise funds for the Bradford Fire Disaster. I think thats what started it off. Coming from the costa Glasgow, All of my family are Rangers supporters but I can be fucked with it all. Its got to the stage now that there was a trend that started a couple of years back where Rangers supporters were bringing Isreali flags to Old Firm games and Celtic were flying the flag of Palestineclown.gif . Its got to the stage now where very few of their fans attend Scotland games and that suits me just fine. They are both as bad as each other.

Oh, And we bought Derek Johnstone from themblink.gif

I could go on rambling about this for ages......the Bradford game mentioned in 84 brought it to a head due to the Rangers support making it clear their dislike for the IRA and republicanism who had taken up a bombing campaign in England murdering many innocent civilians. Their chants of "Rule Britannia", etc..went down well with the Chelsea faithfull and as the Rangers fans left the stadium, the road were lined with the Chelsea support who applauded them for their support.

Theres a small underlying Loyalist link to the Headhunters and C18, etc....which leads back to the troubles in N.Ireland where Rangers have a massive support when servicemen came up against daily attacks from Republicans who had a well known love for Celtic...Rangers Glasgow rivals. Mixing with the servicemen from N.Ireland they got to know more about the background of the country and with football being a topic of discussion when they had time to relax, a soft spot for Rangers was born.

Why anyone would want to be linked with the old firm I dunno.

They probably have the biggest % of idiotic fans of all teams in the world. Most can't even name half the players. Supporting a team to show your hatred for something eg Catholics, is fucking retarded too.

Just for the record.....My supporting of Rangers has nothing to do with disliking Catholics. I was born a Rangers supporter and have had many catholic friends down the years who have supported celtic and we've got on very well. I also have a few friends from Donegal who are Catholic and support Rangers, so your outlook on the Rangers support is slightly tarnished.

What I do agree with you though is those people who just buy a Rangers/Celtic top as its expected of them. I do know people who couldnt name you a starting 5 never mind a starting 11 in either of the OF teams.

Also both sets of fans do have their idiotic element, but we're not all as bad as you think B) . I love seeing Rangers beat Celtic and there is a lot of hatred between the sets of fans, thats only natural as you'd see with any other rivalry in football. Chelsea/Spurs, United/City, Liverpool/Everton, Hibs/Hearts, etc....

Of course there is real and proper fans like yourself but both clubs just bring so much baggage. I live in Ireland, if I go out now for a couple of hours I will probably see at least 10 Celtic jersies on people who probably don't even know Celtic are playing right now.

I am Catholic and I hate Celtic just as much as Rangers! The politics outside both clubs just wreck my head!
