a poor consolation for the UNDER achievers

Do you know how it feels to win the World Cup?

Well done to Strauss and the team, well deserved. Not sure they will last long at the top as they arent playing much test cricket after this.

So, Enjoy it while it lasts ;)

We still have a bit of work to do in ODI Cricket but it would be nice if that comes. We did win the 20 over world cup :P Maybe the 50 over one will come in time but i'm not thinking about that after we've gone to number 1 in the world. Test cricket is the biggest and best form of cricket and being number 1 is the holy grail whether it gives you a trophy or not.

Whether it lasts 1 month or 10 years, we need to enjoy today because we are the best and the rankings prove it. The one day set up has a long way to go but it gives us something to work on.

i don`t know how old you are Max but if you were round when India went 28 or 29 tests without a winning one in the 80`s,that must have been worst than this.

me too max. be good if they could somehow have a test match world cup..perhaps just bewteen the top 6 or something.

22 mate so missed that shite run during the 80s. Even so, been watching cricket for as long as I can remember and we were pretty dire throughout the 90s, especially away from home. It's all relative I guess. We've been on a great run in the last 2-3 years and this is by far the worst I've seen us play collectively since 2006 so it's an unwelcome change.

SO GLAD I missed this test series entirely.

Fucking disappointed we lost out in such a poor fashion. I would've rather we played with some effing character and lost the #1 ranking than roll over and die. Nice of Dhoni to show some CRICKET skills when we were past the brink.

Bloody furious. Our batting is a joke now. Time to let the old guard go, let Kholi, Dhawan and co have their chance. We also need a new #5 batsmen. Raina cannot fulfil that role, and Yuvraj can't play test cricket.

We will slowly shrivel away in the rankings if Duncan Fletcher stays as coach. Smh..

As it turns out, things work in the exact opposite way in Indian cricket, as evidenced by Dravid's call up for the ODI series. Come on, I love Jammy and always have and he'll forever be my favourite cricketer but this is ridiculous.

Indian cricket has and will always be partial to the big-name players, regardless of their actual performance. Laxman and Tendulkar should be made to sit out the next Test. Tendulkar's 100 tons can go to hell, I don't give a toss about his personal records. Harbhajan shouldn't even be considered for overseas matches. He's been living off his reputation for far too long. Ashwin and Mishra are both better than him.

The guys are very fortunate they're not in India right now. Had this been a home series, the abuse they would have received would have been ... how do they say in America ... off the charts.

Tendulkar was very good today, just out very unfortunately. You might as well let him bow out in England properly. Dropping someone like that is harsh when he hasn't really done much wrong. He was on for 100 today but was cruelly ran out.

It's not just today though. He's been poor all series. Sure you could say that about the whole team barring Dravid to an extent and Dhoni this game, but it's obvious all the century talk is playing on his mind. He's playing tentatively and it's just bad to watch.

It won't happen though, because Tendulkar can do no wrong

I will, first time in 35 years and obviously in my lifetime.

I'll enjoy thrashing the previous #1 team 4-0 in a test series just as much though.

Alright lads, get ready for a pasting. English tours are always great stuff to look forward to. Tendulkar's gearing up for a 100th 100 at international level, really hope he gets it at Lord's in the first test, he's never got one there. I see we got comprehensively outplayed in the Somerset tour game, but that was on the cards, we're slow starters anyway. Any of you going to the games?

No, we're just better.

Was it you who was laughing at Bumble for predicting a 4-0 whitewash as well, Jaimin? :D
