Court hears of 'Abramovich threat to shoot Ken Bates'

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has received a death threat from Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich, London's High Court heard. The revelation came during a libel case brought by Melvyn Levi against Mr Bates.

Mr Levi is suing for damages over three articles written by Mr Bates in matchday programmes and in a letter sent to fans in 2006 and 2007.

The court was told Mr Abramovich had threatened to shoot Mr Bates. Mr Bates was the Chelsea chairman who sold the London club to Russian billionaire Mr Abramovich.

The court also heard Mr Bates also tried to sell Leeds United for £51m to a former vice chairman of Everton Football Club. The sale, proposed in early 2007, also included providing Mr Bates with four directors' box tickets and access to the chairman's suite if it went through.

But Chris Greg, once vice chairman at the Merseyside club, would only offer £40m on behalf of a consortium interested in buying Leeds and the deal never went through.

Bates is just a cunt, I never liked him since he set foot out of Chelsea. He demanded so much money when he claimed that we tapped up two young players from Leeds United. He wanted £24 million for them. Seriously, he is not right in the head!

April 89 I was on a train bound for Shrewsbury, We were already Champs in the 2nd Divison and this game was going to be "fun". Around an hour after leaving Euston, Chairman Ken came strolling down the carriage, warned us not go get involved in any grief or he would sell Gordon Durie (Who had earlier scored 5 away to Wallsall)

Bates deserves great, great credit for his fight agianst Marler and Cabra estates, which certainly set him back a few quid. However, he more than made his wedge with Roman!
