Michael Mancienne shock England call-up

Sounds like a plan......

We would have to make some guarentees to him to ensure he wont be tempted elsewhere. The last thing we want is for his agent (if he has one) to start putting ideas into his head now that he is starting to get the recognition.

We should give him a new contract before we do that IMO. His current one has less than 2 years until it expires.

A contract year usually runs till the end of the season, so that would leave him with a year left come July 1st I imagine. Needs done asap.

Bruce Buck has come out and said he expects Mancienne to be part of the first team soon.

All well and good saying that, but it has to happen. It's not as if Mancienne has just dropped out of no-where! Mancienne has looked like making it the way he has for years. We should never have brought in Ivanovic and brought Mancienne into the squad this summer. This is where we still have not got it right with our young stars - our academy is at a very high standard now and our reserve team is full of extremely talented young footballers and now we need to give them their chances with the first team to see if they can cut it - it is the only way to know.

It's not just Mancienne. It's Cork, Bertrand, Stoch, Sahar - not to mention Sinclair and Di Santo all knocking on the door to get their chance and show what they can do and prove they are good enough for our first team.

We seem to be the only team that dont give youngsters a true chance to break through.

Its something we have to think about. It will put off others coming to Chelsea. JT is the only one I can think of who has been given a chance (Maybe Jody Morris) to get a run in the first team before establishing themselves over the last 10 years or so.

There has to be a reason for this. Are the current crop not good enough in the clubs eyes or are we playing it safe with already proven players?

Definately playing it safe, we have some quality youngsters who would love the chance to show what they can do. Even Di Santo who impressed in pre season and who looked more than capable against Liverpool can't get chances and that is with only 1 of our other strikers available.

I wouldn't be as dissapointed if Scolari hadn't been saying when he joined about how he was all for giving youngsters a chance, but he did and he has had the chances and not taken them.
