Because we have a buyback in Akes contract, and the player wants more guaranteed first team starts to progress. If Ake develops into a stud we will exercise our BB options and bring him back. Conte has given the board his list and how many players he wants, he knows who is already under contract as well. He wants competition and depth for an expanded schedule and to be able to challenge competitively on all fronts. Conte/Chelsea couldn't offer him that. So they sold a player who wasnt considered a requirement for 20M lbs with a buy back option. If Ake comes good we will exercise that option and have the player back in our team. If he never develops into the player some expect we made 20M on a player.
