Had Chelsea really wanted him, our club would have convinced the player to refuse the transfer to Roma, he'd have come back to Stuttgart after his loan, then Chelsea would have transfered him directly from Stuttgart for 9m. At least this is what I like to think and frankly this is what every business man would do. This is no fucking charity, oh yes you can have him for 9m and then I'll pay you 30 just because we're Chelsea and financially we're stronger than you. And I firmly believe that the Chelsea board is a tough negociatior because when you rob PSG for 50m on David Luiz it shows that you mean business. Chelsea board can't be idiots to pay silly money for a bang average player like Rudiger. Hopefully. Sure?
Chelsea Legend 11 4,062
well and if he flops all you will complain we spend money on average players. One thing, it can go 50:50 with Rudiger. But right now after all these years of average players, I would for once prefer us to go after proven top quality. It is not Rudiger. Or Manolas. Why cant we target top CBs out there like other clubs would do? I see real picture where we are right now. Its a result of playing average players for high prices and hope they will do well. But most dont and next summer same story. Either buy some kiddo for 10m or splash 50m on top player. Im tired of us paying 30-40m on average players who are only decent but when combined, they cost hundreds of millions. Rudiger is like Baba right now. Damn high price but shown nothing to be realy worth that price. He has potential, but is his potential realy worth 40m? Bayern paid alot for Sanches or Coman while they shown little before. But we cant afford that risk right now to spend on Comans and Sancheses and Rudigers and Stones etc. We need proven players. Leaders. Big price for proven quality. Or if the board thinks they have become magicians in turning up and coming players in world stars, then get talents who wont cost more than 20m and even that can be alot. But dont pay fucking 40m or whatever on players like Rudiger or Stones because the risk is damn high, while the price is damn high too. I would much rather if football went in different direction with these potential players. They should be bought based on their current skill and if they make it, simple clauses with add ons to the former club. Everyone is happy. But Im sick of spending all this money on players who choke in every big game. In past at least you knew if you spent big you got results in 90% of cases. I have nothing against Rudiger but more about the board for making such interest in this kind of players instead of going for proven players. Name me these big name proven CB's you speak of? At what price will these big name CB's sell for? What is their wage demands? Is their a desire to play in the premier league or the champions league? It's not just a matter of going to a grocery store and selecting which CB you want to buy, they have to WANT to come here. In world football there is a real shortage of quality CB's anyways, the best have their choice to choose which club they will join and right now it's not going to be Chelsea. Trust the process, Conte was never big on buying all the world stars, he made his name mainly through developing good players into great ones. No one ever heard of Chiellini, Marchisio, Bonucci and Barzagli before Conte showed up at Juve and now they are household names and full internationals. It's not like they were shit before, they've always been solid players. And their name didn't go out of Italy only after 2012, it only went out stronger because they started winning things. Barzagli is a world cup winner. Chiellini plays at Juve ever since 2005, first national cap in 2004 at the age of 20. Bonucci is a known player since 2010. Marchisio since around 2009. They always end up with the poor 'german' players or 'wrong' players from the Bundesliga. Instead of Reus they buy Marin and Schurrle, instead of someone like Rodriguez they buy Baba and now instead of Mustafi they try to show the world what a world class talent Rudiger is. For that kind of money, Roma will be laughing all the way to the bank, congrats. Poor man's Boateng. Conte must make gold from shit now, good luck, you gonna need it, but the bright side is, massive payout either way, so chin up. I would have also taken the job, the money is there to take. It's like someone at Chelsea has a raging inferiority complex or was repeatedly bullied as a kid and now wants to be proven right just for once in his life

Blue-in-me-Veins 4,067
Anyone given credence to the thought that Rüdiger is coming to play RB, and Azpi will be shoved back to LB? I think that's a real possibility especially if we sign another CB like Koulibally.

Magic Lamps 11,692
Oh God pleas no. I don't get what people see in Rüdiger. He was an atrocious player in Stuttgart, error prone af and a horrible attitude. I hope this deal collapses...The players we are linked so far make me feel like we are going the path of the Milan team, relegating ourselves into irrelevance by signing average, overrated, overpriced players that don't fit the identity of this club. It would only make me wonder why Chelsea are so averse to technically and offensively gifted fullbacks (with actual pace!). Lahm, Alaba, Alba, Alves, Maxwell, Luis etc. and future star fullbacks like Bellerin, Aurier and Shaw are the type of fullbacks Chelsea should be targetting. If the rumours concerning Rudiger are true, I don't think it's to bring him in as a fullback though. I hope they aren't true though. Much rather see Koulibaly join. He was erratic, committing dumb challenges, a red or a caused penalty every fifth game. A few mates of mine are Stuttgart supporters and they did not mind him leaving. It is not that he is a talent anymore, he is 23 but Zouma at 21 has been ten times the player Rüdiger is before his injury. IMO we should not look below the level of quality of our very own Kurt when purchasing a player who is 2 years older.

Essien19 1,415
Zouma isn't a ball playing CB, though... It was a joke mate. [emoji4] Would much rather sign someone else, Rudiger is a jack of all trades, master of none, imo.
