Aesthetic Relic 301
Wright: Scolari won’t win any trophies Former England international Ian Wright fears Chelsea face a trophy-less season under Phil Scolari. Avram Grant’s short reign saw the Blues finish as runners-up in the Carling Cup, the Premier League and the Champions League last term. But Wright is not convinced Big Phil will do any better than his predecessor. The Arsenal legend said: “He’s a proven manager in the fact he’s won the World Cup. “But I think he did it with a Brazil team that any half-decent manager would have won it with. “Scolari had some very decent players during his time with Portugal and I think they should be very disappointed they didn’t do better in their own country at Euro 2004. “It’s going to be a major test for him at Chelsea because of the resources he’s got. He can bring in anyone he likes so in a way it’ll be just like managing Brazil. “We’ll have to see what he does, how they play and if he can handle the everyday pressure of being at a club like Chelsea.” “I personally don’t think he can handle it and I don’t believe he’ll be a success here. I sense some sour grapes from Wrighty..... If a certain young lad called Shaun was a regular I'm sure he wouldnt be making the same comments. changingman2000 35
No, I wouldnt say that. After all, he might not know what Scolari's plans are for SWP, He might have him down for a run in the team, who know's? He's right about Scolari though, He hasnt been in a position such as this before and is certainly going to be scrutinized by the media BIG time. Going to be a very interesting season
EskWeston 696
If there is one person who should never be allowed to talk about football it is Ian Wright...
misschief 24
I think Wright makes some valid points. Doesnt alter the fact he's a twat though.
EskWeston 696
Can't see much valid in there to be honest. Scolari may not have done club management in Europe but he has been successful at his job wherever he has gone and has managed some of the biggest names in world football well and earned their respect! Wrighty talks as if Brazil are guranteed to win the World Cup every time! They have only one it 5 times. Not to mention the fact that leading up to that winning World Cup year Brazil were very unfancied. Scolari has also firmly put Portugal on the Football map! They have been hugely successful in his time and he deserves all the credit for that. Ian Wright is a complete twat and can give a sensible or reasonable comment about football if he tried. Kez 2,727
Like to see him trying to win something as a manager. He's in no position to comment on Scolari winning trophies!

He can't even cut it as a pundit.... possibly the worst football pundit ever rolled out infront of a camera.

I think its fair comment that a half decent manager could win with a Brazilian side and he could potentially have done better in 2004. Apart from that though Wrighty's a twat and obviously very bitter towards Chelsea anyway. If he could just accept that if Shauny was good enough to play for us regularly then he would do, the world would be a happier place. BlueLion. 21,491
I can see some truths in what he is saying. If we try to entertain too much, it will cost us. We need to maintain our ruthless streak, being able to win when the team plays like shit is a nice habit.
