Kalidou Koulibaly

I think we can officially pull the plug on ever getting him.

He signed a new 5 year contract with Napoli 10 days ago, and I do not think there is even a release clause for non Serie A teams now (there never was for Italian teams after Juve took Higuain a couple years ago).

Even if we did buy him next year, we only get 2 seasons out of him before he hits 30. There is zero reason anyone should pay £90m or £100m for a player you only will get 2 sub 30yo years out of, especially a CB, which after DMF is the hardest, most taxing position to play, especially in the EPL. Fernandinho is literally the only over 30yo DMF in the world who is remotely even close to world class, and I predict he was issues starting this year (as he turns 34 in the spring). Busquets (still second best DMF in world after Kante) and Matic (less so)are the only 30 year olds who are WC, or near, so it really is a young mans position far more than any other. CB in the EPL is almost as bad, but not quite.

I know mate. Sadness!

Thats both him and Varane I've wanted we just have no chance of.. Should have got KK 2 seasons ago when we wouldn't pay out a extra £5mill for him.

My biggest regrets of last 4 years

1 De Bruyne

2 Salah

3 not getting KK

4 not getting Alex Sandro

5 Costa shambolic mess

6 Not getting Nainggolan  3 or 4 (even 2) years ago

7 Not swapping Willian for Martial, then buying Bailey

8 not getting Rugani (BUT we were idiots for not then immediately jumping for Thilo Kehrer, who would have been perfect for Sari ball and is only 22 next month and PSG are getting for only £33m,not the almost £50m we went up to for Rugani

Kehrer to PSG not complete, say Schalke

I agree with that list

I also liked Schurrle, Square and Luis.

The reason Rugani and Caldara are/were so tough to get, is that there are only FOUR top class Italian CB's under 30 (and one isn't even under 30, lolol), they are under immense pressure to stay in Serie A

OH! and add Romagnoli to my regrets list, another Italian assfuck job, like 3 years ago or so. The main Italian clubs has just pummelled us and cocked up our windows for last 4 years.

I am sure if we go after Bernardeschi or Chiesa next summer or even in January for RW, we will get shivved again.:(

Does it have a Chelsea ban in it? Arff, no release clause either. Next summer is the last summer he interests me anyway, due to age. Ah, what could have been. Sigh.

I doubt very much we would go for him even if it didn't have a anti CFC clause mate. We missed out on him when Granny like usual tried to pay £10 mill under price the dwarf crazy dwarf wanted. And now hes double the price.

It will be like getting blood from a stone trying to get anyone from them but it was worth it to get Sarri and Jorgi boy.

Maurizio Sarri favourite Kalidou Koulibaly speaks out on why he refused the chance to join Chelsea

He would have been a fine signing to help the Italian translate his methods to England

https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/maurizio-sarri-favourite-speaks-out-15185954

Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly has explained why he turned down the idea of a Premier League move to commit his future to the Serie A club.

He was one of Maurizio Sarri's most important players during their time together in Naples and was said to be a target for Chelsea and Liverpool.

An excellent example of what the Italian looks for in the a defender, the Senegal international is a commanding, ball-playing centre-back who combines impressive physical attributes with composure and skill in possession.

His pace and strength made him the enforcer within the Napoli rearguard under Sarri but he was also a key component in how the team built moves from the back, and was also a threat from set pieces.

New manager Carlo Ancelotti will need to rely on Koulibaly's quality to cope with the transition from playing the Sarri way to less tactically demanding game plan.

The former Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid coach could have found himself in a tricky situation had the defender bought into the idea of leaving Italy for England.

Instead he decided to stay and sign a new deal with Napoli. He is now under contract until 2023.

Antonio Conte was heavily linked with a move for Koulibaly in the summer of 2016. The centre-back was one of a number of targets identified by the ex-Juventus boss in Serie A. In the end, the Blues signed David Luiz from PSG. <<<<<< SHOOT ME NOW!:(

Speaking in an interview with Radio Kiss Kiss in Naples, as reported by Calcio Mercato , the 27-year-old explained why he turned down offers to leave.

"I try to be a real person," he said. "For me it was very important to repay the trust that everyone has in me.

"I had the chance to renew until 2023. I thank everyone, the president, the staff and all the players. The staff has really helped me a lot.

"I am very happy to be here, I am confident for the future and I am very happy in Naples. Renewing for five years for me is a very normal thing, I hope to repay this on the field."

This guy is a beast, I think he is on par with Van Djik. We should go for him to replace Luiz in the summer. I was a doubter when Conte wanted him but I have been converted over the last couple of years.

Top top player for sure but too expensive for his age. Rather get De Ligt.

Hell yes! de Ligt is already a beast. Between £80m for him or £80 for Koulibaly it is de Ligt hands down, due to ages. We would be set at at one CB position for at least a decade plus. Add in an even younger Ampadu plus Rudiger to be the stop-gap/rotation for a few years and we are set. But, no, we would rather fuck about with Luiz, and give him an extension. He will be bloody 33 in the spring of next season ffs.

What I really like about him is he is left footed. This will help our defense so much having one left footed player. It always helps with our passing angles.
