Radamel Falcao

We can guarantee more playing time, especially if Torres is not firing. So City and United are out of the equation (at least in January).

I won't say City are out of the equation, but a move to Chelsea makes far more sense.

The only thing is, will we pay 50m+ for him? with FFP and teams already being punished.

we have more Spanish speakers and South Americans in the team than City do as well, also its likely he would prefer to live in London rather than Manchester. So these could also be factors that could put us ahead of City to sign him.

We'll have to wait and see. I think we will buy him even if its for £60 million. He seems like value for Money. At the beginning of the prime of his career rather than at the end of it. Bigger teams also will probably get away with FFP breaches as we bring UEFA far too much viewership and by extension, Revenue to be excluded from the Champions League. A slap on the wrist at most.

They don't 'have' to sell him. He has plenty of time to run on his contract. They can take a gamble and wait 2, 3 or even 4 windows to secure a 50 million+ transfer fee.

As I said in the other FFP thread they aren't going to let him go on the cheap. He is their star asset, the one with by far the highest value, and they're going to make sure they can juice him for every last cent.

He is going to cost 50+ million regardless of when they sell him. They will sell him now as he has some years left on his contract.

To think, he was available at a mere £24m start of last summer (before he signed that contract to boost his price).

Although having said that, after what happened in Munich, its hard to regret anything that happened last season, even that.

I regret us not buying him from SA, not last year!

Damn, is Falcao due a new contract or is his agent incredible keen for him to join us? Have to ask who leaked the transfer story, doubt it came from the club.

Come on Nando, man up, learn to retain possession (this is his biggest problem - not goals IMO) and bang in twenty by Xmas (16 to go) otherwise I fear for your future.

We are definetly trying to sign him, it's another matter if cash strapped Madrid will actually decide to let go of their prized asset. I'm sure if there is 20 million euro profit to be made, they will surely consider it very seriously - because Falcao is also their best paid player so they would also be deducting his wage from their expenses. Atletico Madrid owe over €160m in tax to the Spanish government while their total debt is over €517m. Currently it will take them at least 20 years to fully repay the €160m, assuming they don't increase it. Last month, their Europa League price money was taken away from them by UEFA due to their tax debt, as part of the first forms of punishment in Financial Fairplay.

The only way I can forsee Madrid keeping him over the winter transfer window is if they are challanging for the title - perhaps in that case they might be able to afford to wait for the best possible deal in the summer while gaining further limelight and possibilities for commercial revenue.
