Is he? For me he was quite clearly their best defender last season - Kompany was exposed as the good-but-not-brilliant defender he truly is, and it was Demichelis for the most part of the season was the real rock in City's back four. He had an inconsistent start to life in England but beyond that he was excellent.

I agree with you that selling Nastasic would be an idiotic move, though.

To me, Demichelis is either average and you don't really notice him or he's shit and sticks out like a sore thumb. Never a "damn, he's good" type of defender.

Agreed, but he isn't some kind of David Luiz-style catastrophe of a defender, as your first post inferred. He's a solid, usually dependable workhorse who is never afraid to put his body on the loan. A solid 7/10 player, a lot like Gary Cahill. He'll never set the world alight but he does a good job and rarely lets you down.

Richards needs to go to a mid-PL club where he's going to play a lot more and show that he's actually a pretty neat defender.

They spent 32M on a CB who isn't even much better than Nastasic in my eyes. Nastasic have struggled with injuries the last year and a bit but hes a very talented player and hes younger than Mangala.

Totally agree, I think he's off to Newcastle or Everton (they want a loan but City want to sell permanently)

I never got the hype around him to be honest. Injury prone and an error machine at times. Not EPL top4 quality IMHO, City should have kept Savic, he is way better than Nastazic.

Wrong profile for us. He's foreign and young, something we have in Kalas, Omeruo, Zouma and Christensen (feel like I'm missing someone).

We need someone who's a little bit older because at the moment our defenders are either 28+ or under 21. Ideally you'd find someone homegrown and about 25.

There aren't many available, though, are there? I thought that Liverpool signing Lovern was again a lack of ambition in their signings, but when you think about it, there aren't many top home grown CBs at their peak. Jaagielka? Very similar to Cahill. Lesscot I never found very convincing either. Am I missing an obvious one?
