EskWeston 696
So it seems that we can expect the deal to be fully tied up by the end of the day. Certainly looks like we want to get any summer transfer dealing done as quickly as possible..... obviously doesn't always work out. Right back is one position we desperately needed to fill. Ramos, Alves and Bosingwa were the outstanding candidates and it looks like we have gone for Bosingwa
kbchel 2
kinda prefer bosingwa he's more defensive.... alves is known for his attacking abilities....if he come to Chelsea we will be exposed in the right back position besides he cost much more cheaper thn ramos and alves....those 2 will easily cost us 30 million and a mega contract
Jon 18
I'm not sure how I feel about the Bosingwa acquisition. I need to read more about him and how folks rate him. Chelsea News: 5/12/
bombayblue™ 55
good signing, surely avram with this hands full at mangement wouldn't have had time to shortlist players for transfers so soon
EskWeston 696
Well thats the other thing isn't it. Who's signing is this? This means that either Grant IS here for next season, or the replacement has been decided long ago and we are already targeting his wanted players? Either way it is good because right back is a real issue still and has been for a very very long time, hopefully Bosingwa can be the man to finally sort the position out.... Alee. 182
One of My Most Fav. Player.. Brilliant !! Chelsea have reached an agreement with Porto for the £16.2m transfer of right-back Jose Bosingwa. The 25-year-old Portugal international has arrived in London to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical. Bosingwa, who was also a target for Manchester United, was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo but moved to Portugal as a child. The full-back helped Porto to the 2004 Champions League title and four league championships since signing in 2003. Bosingwa made more than 40 appearances for Boavista before former Blues boss Jose Mourinho brought him to rivals Porto. Although he was used sparingly in his first season, the defender, who can also play on the wing, had been the first-choice right-back during the last three seasons. His performances have earned him seven caps for Portugal and he is expected to be named in their Euro 2008 squad this week. Alberto da Silva, a journalist for World Soccer magazine, believes Bosingwa has been overvalued by Chelsea. "He's a good player but he's not worth that much money," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Chelsea's current right-back Paulo Ferreira is a better player. I don't know who negotiated the deal, but he did well for Porto." He added: "I don't believe Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would have been willing to spend that much money on Bosingwa." Three years ago, Bosingwa was involved in a serious car accident along with four other footballers. All survived, but Sandro Luis, from a minor Portuguese side, had to have his left foot amputated as a result of the accident. Bosingwa's arrival at Stamford Bridge will cast doubt over the future of another right-back Juliano Belletti. The former Barcelona defender, who scored the winning goal in the 2006 Champions League final against Arsenal, has been overlooked by Blues manager Avram Grant in recent weeks, with Michael Essien occupying the full-back berth. EskWeston 696
I find it very hard to believe that Ferreira is viewed as a better player, if that was the case then Ferreira would be first choice for Portugal. Only time will tell though and as with all players comming into the club to give them the time to settle and judge them on their performances for us and not make snap judgements. manpe 10,861
I don't know pretty much anything about the bloke. I don't watch Portuguese league (only a few games if I am interested). But he's relatively young, that's always a plus. Can't wait to see him in action.
James 5,311
I've seen one video clip of Bosingwa on youtube where he skinned a couple of players and then scored, looked strong and a good player abit in the Cafu mould. He plays abit like Belletti and likes to attack more than defend, his first choice for his country and is suppose to be better than miguel. TrueChelseaBlue 105
José Bosingwa has agreed terms with Chelsea Football Club and will join the club after Euro 2008. He has agreed a three-year contract. The 25-year-old will join us from Porto, where he spent the past five seasons since signing from Boavista in 2003. While with Porto, he played alongside our own Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira, and established himself as first choice right-back upon Ferreira's switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2004. Used just 13 times in his first season by José Mourinho, Bosingwa became a regular during 2004/5 and has kept his place since, playing over 100 times. He played twice against Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge in September 2004 in our 3-1 group stage win over the reigning European champions (he was an unused sub for the away fixture) and in the first leg of last season's first knockout round, a 1-1 draw in Porto with Andriy Shevchenko scored for the Blues. However injury ruled Bosingwa out of the second leg when Chelsea progressed. The player's consistency for club allowed him to break into the Portugal squad, where he faces a battle with Valencia's Miguel for the starting berth. Ferreira is a regular on the left, while Carvalho plays in the centre for Luis Felipe Scolari's side. Born in Kinshasa, Congo, the same birthplace as Claude Makelele, José Bosingwa da Silva moved to Portugal at an early age, and was recruited by Boavista where he developed his all-round game - solid at the back, energetic down the flanks and incisive in attack. Used mainly in defence now, he can also be employed as a right-sided midfielder. He made 41 league appearances in two seasons for Boavista before joining Porto in the summer of 2003. He has also represented his country at under-21 level, as well as playing in the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and to date he has four Superliga championships and a Portuguese Cup to his name, as well as a Champions League winners' medal from 2004, when he was an unused substitute as Porto triumphed 3-0 against Monaco. In the season just finished, he was part of a championship-winning Porto side that conceded just 13 goals in 30 games. Bosingwa becomes the fourth Portuguese in our first team squad, with Hilario also involved. Chelsea FC will carry an exclusive interview with our new signing in Blues News at 6.30pm. warnie_666 1,081
Every Player signed from now on has to be Grant's signing. Lets face it. Everytime Chelsea signs a player, I feel worried cus we have had more flops than hits. Hope Grant with his luck changes this. Anelka: when was the last time he scored? Ivanovic: Havent seen him. Di Santo: Good Debut season. Boswinga: Tipped as portugal No.1 so hopfully has to be good. All eyes on him in EURO 2008. May be we will sell Ferriera and Belleti as Ivanovic plays both RB and CB.
