magic weeds 446
UEFA Youth League report: Sporting Lisbon 0 Chelsea 5NEWS 23 hoursOur Under-19 side secured an excellent result in Lisbon on Tuesday as they defeated Sporting 5-0 in the UEFA Youth League to make it two wins from two in Group G.A Charlie Colkett penalty and a strike from Charly Musonda inside the opening seven minutes set Adi Viveash's side on the way to victory, before confident close-range finishes from Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke gave the Blues a commanding half-time lead.Abraham then netted his second a minute after the restart and the visitors worked hard in the remainder of the game to hold on to a clean sheet and another three points. TEAM NEWSThere were four first-year scholars and a schoolboy in Adi Viveash's starting side, three of whom featured at the back. Under-16 goalkeeper Jared Thompson began between the sticks, with Jay Dasilva and Fikayo Tomori at left-back and right-back respectively.Ola Aina and Andreas Christensen partnered in central defence, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Charlie Colkett in the central midfield areas. Charly Musonda, Tammy Abraham and captain Izzy Brown supported striker Dominic Solanke in attack. FIRST HALFThe Blues began on the front foot and had a perfect start inside two minutes as Solanke anticipated the heavy touch of Pedro Silva in the Sporting goal and cleverly got himself in between the goalkeeper and the ball before being upended. Colkett stepped up from 12 yards and dispatched with confidence. The positive start continued for the visitors and they quickly doubled their advantage four minutes later. Colkett won possession in midfield and shifted it quickly to Musonda, who arrowed a brilliant effort beyond Silva and into the corner of the goal.Jose Correia fired over for the hosts as they briefly enjoyed some possession in the visitors' half and Thompson was forced into some aerial action defending a couple of set-pieces. However, two Chelsea goals in a few minutes midway through the half soon put them into a commanding position.Colkett produced a brilliant turn in tight space in the box to escape the defender and then delivered an inviting low centre that Abraham gladly tucked home from close range (pictured below). Then a quick attack saw Loftus-Cheek release Abraham down the right flank and his driven low cross was converted at the back post by Solanke. The young Blues were content to manage the game more carefully as the interval approached and, despite the loss of their captain Brown with a slight knock, went in at half-time in a very positive shape. SECOND HALFThere was an even shorter wait for a goal at the start of the second period as Abraham grabbed his second of the afternoon and the Blues' fifth as he finished a quick attack with a great bending effort into the far corner a minute after the restart. That set the tone for another half that the visitors controlled, with substitute Wakefield and Loftus-Cheek shooting narrowly over, though concentration was still needed in defence and those at the back duly delivered in the final half an hour.Substitute Jake Clarke-Salter made a string of interceptions after being introduced and the midfield pair of Colkett and Loftus-Cheek worked hard to cover space in front.Wakefield and Alex Kiwomya were unfortunate not to add further opportunities from out wide, however the damage had already been done and Viveash was able to celebrate his birthday with a satisfying victory.Next up for the Academy is a trip to Norwich City this Saturday 4 October for the Under-18s.Chelsea: Jared Thompson; Fikayo Tomori (Jake Clarke-Salter 67), Ola Aina, Andreas Christensen, Jay Dasilva; Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Charlie Colkett, Charly Musonda; Tammy Abraham (Charlie Wakefield 53), Dominic Solanke, Izzy Brown © (Alex Kiwomya 40)Unused subs Nathan Baxter, Ruben Sammut, Kyle Scott, Isaac Christie-DaviesScorers Colkett (pen) 3; Musonda 7; Abraham 25, 46: Solanke 27Bookings Solanke, Loftus-CheekSporting: Pedro Silva, Serrano ©, Bruno Wilson, Ivanildo Fernandes, Goncalo Araujo, Pedro Ferreira (Bubacar Djalo 33), Diogo Barbosa (Rafael Barbosa 83), José Correia, Eloi, Ronaldo Tavares (José Postiga 77), Lisandro SemedoUnused subs Stojkovic, Guilherme Ramos, Ruben Varela, Arilton EboBookings Araujo, Wilson, Serrano
