2. We are not discussing The Bible. This is about religion in general being a good or bad thing. Dont make this a Christian debate...

I'm not singling out christianity, in fact I don't care for none of the religions enough for me to single one out.

6. You havent answered whether you believe books, movies, etc are evil.

I didn't answer it because it's a silly analogy and I won't waste my time on it. If you want to talk about books and films, do it in proper forums or open another thread.

Deuteronomy 22:23-24

If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,

you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. You must purge the evil from among you.

How do you defend this piece of noble and moral story? A woman stoned to death for not crying for help, my word.

Can we fucking end this nonsense debate? Unbelievable how we are actually discussing this

I agree!

All I think is the problem is that people make bad use of it like they do with other tools humanity invented (books, movies, sports, etc). Religious is just a set of believes some choose to accept or not...

I am personality too much of a science guy to blindly accept it, but I dont go bashing the ones who does (my own familiy for instance). The atheist that do it are just as stupid as extremists.

You have no arguments mate, you are discussing something you know shit about.

We better just stop it there, sometimes all you need is a happy life. ;)

So you concede that I won? I accept that :tophat: But in all seriousness I don't care about religion enough to have some kind of in depth argument over it, it bores me, I just consider it evil (maybe it's not the best word to use how I feel about it, but I just don't like it), but I don't go fighting religious people, I keep it to myself because otherwise I wouldn't be any better than the jews leaving after that muslim scored. I'm no extremist in that sense, I just may have an "extreme" opinion for some people. If you accept that I consider it bad then I accept that you don't, that's how two non-agreeing adults work things out.

Where does my dislike stem from? Most likely from the books I've read about my nation being abused, killed and enslaved by christians in the past. It was so bad that we almost became extinct. That was probably the moment I started seeing it as nothing more but evil.

Woo a religion debate!

Alright break it up guys, the religious debate is completely off topic here. It is even a topic that should not be discussed on these forums because someone is bound to get insulted. So please continue it through PMs if you wish.

Yeah whatever, you win! :)

I dont get bored with religion, it actually angries me that people live by the rules I cant seem to accept. However, I have actually read some books of the main religions around the world. It is just not for me, but I have no right to criticize those who have faith, I was just not born with it. Are we any better because of it? No.

I get that, but see if you agree...

Do I blame books or racism in general for WW2? No, I blame one man who was clever and able to use those two tools to instigate hate through the whole fucking world. Your dislike should be aimed at the specific individuals that did those horrible things to your country. At least, this is how I view it.

Anyways Manpe, we have two very different opinions and one wont convince the other. Agree to disagree?

As I said before mate read the primary sources. Don't formulate an opinion on religion from the evil or abuse your nation unfortunately sustained, or maybe yourself has come under.

I know in Estonia I think religion doesn't form part of your circular so and was voted the lowest religious country in the world :D Like i said though I used to read so much negative propaganda about a religion. I read the primary source of the religion that constantly seems to be scrutinised by the media with an open heart and was just blown away at how ill-informed my opinion was, and the beauty of the religion I as a human have found peace in.

You're ignoring the fact that people's religious beliefs have blocked the rights of groups and individuals for centuries.

Equally, when Salahuddin captured Jersuselem the christians and Jews were allowed to live in peace as dwellers like every other human. Equally, Stalin, and atheist persecuted and killed so many people for having religious beliefs.

You see my point? Don't judge religion by a mans actions but look at the religion itself. Like I said I used to do that very same thing until I looked at the primary sources.

Actually, it was the tool "Kings" had to persuade their people. Now this task has been given to TV and Hollywood...

I have read numerous primary sources. They sound like pieces informed by a morality that existed a couple of thousand years ago and we've moved on, yet the 'primary sources' obviously haven't. That's the problem. Unless you think things haven't changed in 2000 years then you have to acknowledge that they're intrinsically flawed.

Oh no.....the democratisation of ideology. The most important modern phenomenon has been the internet, in that people have more information available to them than at any

What you said makes no sense at all. What I read is so relevant today, and was literally like answers to a lot of my questions. I'm a logical person. These primiary sources for this religion I embracedstands the test of time indeed and for example stated scientific theories or knowldge which took thousands of years to be found out by scientists, and is still backed today. Like i've said before I don't like religious debates over the internet so I'm ending my input and watching the game :)

The internet generation still hasnt fully taken out yet. People who have formed their own opinions with the full use of the internet is still young (my age)...Your generation is still ruled by the TV and Cinema. Internet only exploded in late 90s. It has indeed become an enormous tool, but hasnt reach its full potential.

Also, democatrisation of what? From what I know it is still pretty expensive to be connected to the internet. I always find your views verry narrow minded, it is a pretty English only aproach.

Having said that, I agree with you in the scheme of things. Although it doesnt make my point invalid, since the two big wars, TV and Films have vastly influenced people's opinion.

Like what? That the earth is 6,000 years old? Like Moses split the Red Sea or Jesus turned water into wine? Science and religion don't mix and the percentage of scientists who are religious is extremely small. Holy texts say some things that are factually untrue and many many things that are just stories like the Greeks told about Zeus. I Humans didn't come from Adam and Eve. We evolved over millions of years. Science and religion are at loggerheads. One is empirical and logical and the other is the belief in the unknown.
