The Skipper 20,609
@OscarPistorius: Nothing like getting home to hear the washing machine on and thinking its an intruder to go into full combat recon mode into the pantry! waaThis is what he tweeted a couple of months ago. He's a paranoid man.
Drogzola 283
I know exactly how you feel man, it is sad that most people think that of us!I have lived all my life in SA, I have never been mugged or shot at.I have been pick pocketed and caught the guy and beat the shit out of him but never have I had a gun held to my head. Unfortunately the people that do move to Australia or Uk and cry that our Country is so dangerous. Rather than stand together and do something about it they run away to 'greener pastures'. Rather than stand together and do something about it they run away to 'greener pastures'.I have never even been pick pocketed!I know the places and hours I can go though, I wont take my iPad out to take a photo of a favela, I know my boundaries. Americans (specially) come here thinking they are visiting their 20k (population) suburban town, where nothing evil happens, lol.I agree it must be hard, they are not used to pay attention in what surronds them. But if you are to come here, at least do your research, any tourist guide will tell you that! I hate when people leave Brazil and says "oh my god such a horrible country, I have been robbed". Of course you have, you decided to walk down the beach at 11pm with your Rolex, get real!!!!
Drogzola 283
@Rmpr Here in Cape Town we have a huge amount of tourists from Germany and Holland, they do Kite Surfing here, you can see the ones that come every year and which ones are new tourists. If I was a criminal it would be easy pickings.Blend in as much as you possibly can.It is really funny to see tourists on the beach, they find everything so different that the look on their face is priceless. It is impossible not to recognise who is Brazilian or not. However, cities like Rio are very used to receiving tons of tourists, so they will have police taking care of the nice places people go (Copacabana, Cristo, Pao de Açucar, Lagoa, Barra, etc); the problem is that they get so dazzled that they forget to take some very basic precautions. You cant pay a coconut water with a 100 reais bill and then leave your wallet out there to swim, of course your wallet on be there afterwards....Deep shit (like murder or rape) only happens with people who risk their lifes. If you are visiting an unkown place late at night and you are feeling unconfortable, just get the fuck out of it. Dont fucking risk it only becuase the view is gorgeous or because your friends are saying you are a pussy!

SinineUltra 1,170
You people who live in safe countries think it is a wild jungle out there in Brazil, South Africa, etc. It is not like that, there are the very dangerous places and the safe ones; look at where he was living, he would never have to shoot 4 times in a panic move...Agree with you. People make out that Eastern Europe is also a dangerous place for foreigners. It's only dangerous here if you wander around in night in the wrong neighborhood. One other factor is skin color. Not many races other than european decent live here so if one is a bit darker he is going to be looked at. It's nothing to do with racism, just that we are not used to it. Rest In Peace Was she innocent though? That's also theorizing and jumping to conclusions without knowing any facts.@Rmpr, have you ever been to gang infested favelas? I've watched the Ross Kemp on Gangs documentaries about gang violence all over the world and Brazil was also represented. It looked bad in the favelas, really bad. Rmpr 8,977
@Rmpr, have you ever been to gang infested favelas? I've watched the Ross Kemp on Gangs documentaries about gang violence all over the world and Brazil was also represented. It looked bad in the favelas, really bad.We dont have what you would consider gangs, but favela is a very unique place. It is anything but easy to explain...It is only bad for the people who live in it or work there (police, teachers, bus drivers, etc). I have been to a few favelas, but it is either to buy drugs for my friends or to do volunteer works. In both cases, they treat you really well!I doubt you trully want to learn about it, but if you do just start a PM or create a thread. Be prepared for a long conversation though.Watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eodyqcxtL4M
BluesChick 1,260
@Toronto… no the shoot first attitude is not an American one and in most states will end land you in jail just as fast if not faster than the guy breaking into your house...@rmpr… I understand your frustration about people making assumptions about where you are from and where you live. I get both sides of that coin. I love watching peoples expression in the states when I say I live in China and even better when I tell them I like living here! Tourist are awful. I think American tourists (especially the ones traveling with a cruise line or tour group) are the worst next to Chinese… (if you haven't run into a Chinese tour group my only advice if you see one is run the other way!) We've traveled to some remote places in Asia and I do my best not to stare and am very careful not be too showy with my camera, my cash, or belongings. I never ever use my iPad for pictures. The last thing I want is a target on my back! I also do my research to learn about the traditions and culture, so that I don't offend anyone. I wouldn't want to offend someone by the way I dress or by inadvertently using a hand gesture that means something else. RE Oscar: Last article I read said he shot through the bathroom door 4 times and then carried her downstairs before starting CPR. why would a burglar be in your bathroom? didn't he know she was home? if he did, wouldn't knocking come before shooting? why did he move her? Spike 12,049
Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not, she is dead. Nothing will change that.
manpe 10,861
Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not, she is dead. Nothing will change that.It does matter. A just punishment is extremely important for the victim's family, and it matters greatly whether she was killed intentionally or by accident. And if intentionally, then why? The victim's closest ones simply need to know for closure. The guy who killed my best friend answered most important questions with "I don't know, I don't remember, I don't I don't bla bla" in court... fucking wanker, just admit what and why you did. No real motive was established in the end, he was simply thrown into the bin leaving his family wondering wtf went down. Piece of shit.
