I don't see why he wouldn't be the greatest. The main man in the team during the most successful period in the clubs history. Not only did the great man do it domestically but he also did it in Europe. One of the few players in the history of the club who could mount a genuine claim of being able to get into any starting 11 in any side in his pomp. One of the best strikers on the planet for a very long time and probably the most complete centre forward of the modern age. Didier Drogba had it all and he did it all at Chelsea.

The argument for Drogba isn't one of sentiment or nostalgia, it's one steeped in logic and fact. Lampard and Terry will have won more than him at the club and both are absolute Chelsea legends but I, like a lot of people, feel that it is Drogba that defined the most successful era in the club's history. For me, when you were talking about Chelsea or other clubs o fans were talking about playing against Chelsea they were talking about playing against Drogba. Some may have been here longer, some may have won more, some may have been prettier to watch playing, some may rekindle a greater sense of nostalgia but none had the impact of Drogba, the finest striker I've ever seen, and probably ever will see, and, the greatest player I've ever seen play in a Chelsea jersey.

He isn't the greatest because the almighty "zolayes" says so.

The problem with these lists is they will always favour players within the last 10-20 years because they are the players most of the voters have watched. If we do another of these votes in 5-10 years expect to see the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Mata towards the top end.

My only argument towards the likes of Terry, Lampard and Drogba being amongst the top handful is that they have been a core part of the most successful period of the club's history. The likes of Zola and Osgood played in excellent teams in their era but never won the trophies we have won in recent years.

But for me, these lists are generally pointless.

I think that because the quality of the teams at Chelsea have improved since Abramovich so too will the calibre of player at the club, thus these lists will always consist more of players playing at Chelsea during the Abramovich era than those playing at any other era at Chelsea. Don't be surprised to see Hazard, Oscar or Mata in these lists in the near future and it wouldn't be incorrect, afterall there haven't been many players of Hazard's genuinely world class qualities at Chelsea and it's not everday that Brazil's starting number 10, and a phenom at the age of 20, plays his football in England.

Typical new wave plastic generation fans I'm afraid

Zola or possibly Jimmy Floyd should be topping this. Watched Zola train with the ball recently at a Watford game (I got in free through the ES scaffold with some scraps) and he's still got it. Tucked the ball in his tracksuit top at one point, but I missed it, couldn't sleep after that

Hi!! Welcome to the forum.

Anyway could you elaborate on what "New wave plastic generation fan" mean???

Hi mate can't find the quote button, I suspect a mod/mamf will get that fixed

New generation as in young or new sky sports generation fans. They don't appreciate our history but rather only what is going on in the modern game? I bet they couldn't name one player from the 1970 FA cup final against Leeds United for example, but they think Drogba is the best player to grace our club??

You just press the comment you wanna quote, and it should trigger a button to quote. Hope it helps :)

I can't name a single person that played in 1970 (well not Exactly but Im not that well informed about our past) So am I a so called plastic fan too???

But before you tag me as a "plastic fan", you should atleast hear out, why I don't!!! First I was born in 1990 so that's like 20 years before I was even born, not only that I wasn't born in England either. So the only reason I am a Chelsea fan is because my grandad luckily was a Chelsea fan and I grew up watching/liking them, and trust me where I come from 15 years ago, no one had even heard of Chelsea, hence I feel lucky my grandad somehow knew. I haven't been in any Chelsea match!!! Just once when they came to Malaysia, and I barely managed to be there. But does that make my love/passion towards the club, any lesser than yours?? I certainly don't think so!!!

I'm just saying before tagging the supporters of the same club with awful words as "plastic fan". You gotta understand that some people aren't lucky enough to have a heritage with a club and the only way they know about the club is because they liked the style of the team (past or present or via skysports) And beside that, instead of hating them for not knowing the clubs history, you can always educate them!!

Because a fan is a fan, eventhough he found out about Chelsea yesterday or he has been following for ages. And should get equal respect from other fans. Period!!
