🇧🇪 Eden Hazard

Arsenal was the first EPL team that was erased from his wishlist => not enough maturity in the team + too much uncertainty around Van Persie. T

   So true! Least he recognized that, unlike a certain Frenchman...

Eventually it was clear that it would become a struggle between United and us! United offered better wages (!!) ... but Eden preferred the Blues ( :blue scalf: )because he was promised to become the #10 of a whole new and attacking young team. He believes a lot in the potential and the ambitions of our club!

United offered better wages than us?! Surely not!

Belgian Football Magazine (sport voetbal magazine) comes up with a report of some extra info about Eden's transfer.

A total of 8(!) clubs came up with serious offerts to try and attract Hazard during the last season. Hazard said no to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Tottenham, Man City and eventually also Man United!

Already in january, when he announced he was going to play in the EPL, Barcelona, Madrid & Inter were out of the race. Hazard prefers the EPL because it's a competition that fits him well with a lot of pace & dedication on the pitch & a great atmosphere on the stands. Eden thinks english football fits him best of all European leagues.

Arsenal was the first EPL team that was erased from his wishlist => not enough maturity in the team + too much uncertainty around Van Persie. Tottenham attracted his interest but then totally collapsed at the end of the season.

Eat this Real, Barcelona and the rest of the EPL teams B)

So Mata is back to the Wings... Just perfect <_<

Wouldn't take that seriously TBH. Probably was lost in translation. ;)

Actually no it wasn't.

The word for word translation is " From various conversations with the staff (his entourage) it appears he'll be playing on the number 10, behind the striker."

I think Mata is back on the wing.

In the newest Chelsea TV upload on Youtube, Essien and Mata introduce themselves.

Essien says - "Michael Essien, midifelder."

Mata says - "Juan Mata, left winger." with uncertainty in his voice.

In way I feel really bad for Mata cause im sure his ambition was to be Chelsea's No 10. In the end Mata is a strong character and im sure it wont phase him. Mata doesn't need a number anyway lol he's got full license to just roam.

Ha! So much for trying to be positive. Difficult to imagine a player asking/demanding to play in a certain position during negotiation. Won't be believe all those stories till I see it happens on the pitch. If Hazard wants to play in that CAM, then he has to prove himself there. Won't be fair at all if he just comes in like that and takes Mata's place.

Am I the only one who really doesn't care about fucking number on his kit? He can wear whatever he wants I am more interested about his performance.

Eh, starting XI shirts generally sell more than other numbers. Hazard 11 will probably ship a few more than Hazard 36.

Well Belgian and French papers have always reported the weekly wages to be around 110 000 £ so it not impossible that Man United offered more.

Hard to see Fergie paying higher than that for Hazard. He is after all only 21 y/o.

Don't think he really demanded the position probably just asked where they would play him. He's probably just gonna get his shot on the number 10 and see how he performs there. But like "james" said doesn't really matter that much where they play. They'll just roam all over. Both Mata and Hazard are players who need that freedom to roam to really max their impact.

True but he was also one of the most wanted young players on the market and he was playing on the position that they were in need of strenghtening. + the fact of not winning a prize and the fast elemination from the CL and EL. It could have swayed him to invest a bit more.

True but I just think with Hazard's dribilling skills, pace and trickery, he would be suited much more in the wide areas than in the middle. It's what we need and have been desperaely lacking for years now. And you can see that Mata doesn't have that kind of ability to beat his man when being played out wide under AVB.

Not sure I would agree with that. They are well stocked in the wide areas and Rooney is United's main man to play behind the striker, which is the role that Hazard allegedly wants.

I agree with the general consensus that Hazard's skillset is better suited to the wing than Mata's. Also Mata has had a year in the Prem to adapt. The pace and intensity will take Hazard time to adapt and playing wide will hopefully give him more time and space to adapt, compared to the middle which can get congested. However there is another spin on Mata playing in the wing and that is also due to his year in the Prem. He has shown although not great or strong defensively, he does possess the desire and mindset to track back and defend with discipline. You don't play both legs against Barcelona or the final against Bayern without the willingness to sacrifice aspects of your play for the good of the team.

As people have said however, the two are extemely intelligent, skillful young players and can hopefully strike up a solid understanding over the next few months.

Translated version of the story from Atholy:

How did Eden Hazard eventually go to Chelsea? Sports / Football Magazine talked with some people from the entourage of the Red Devil and made a reconstruction.

Eight clubs signed up specifically to Eden Hazard (21) at Lille to remove: Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal, Inter, Real Madrid and Barcelona. In January the last three were all told that Hazard for England would choose.

"A conscious choice," explains the entourage of the Belgian national team out. "Eden loves the rhythm of the match, the atmosphere in the stands, and he thinks English football his best." Zinedine Zidane would never intervene, unlike what was previously thought.

Arsenal fell off as the first English club. Lack of maturity of the team, too much uncertainty surrounding the continued Robin van Persie. Tottenham was killed as a second after the team upset at each other during the final stage of the competition. The price is certain, although late in January 2011 Hazard, who over a new contract with Lille closes his record of 40 million can escape.

Whittled Chelsea and Manchester United are the last over. United made a huge impression on him and also offers the best financial conditions. Yet ultimately chooses Hazard for Chelsea, where, after Shevchenko Torres and the most expensive transfer of the club. From various conversations with the staff that he is the number ten, behind the striker. Chelsea wants to renew and offensive play. According to his entourage Hazard hopes that boring football is over. (TB)

@BluesMaster

I understand what you mean but the thing is in the last 2 years Hazard has changed his way of playing. From being an explosive winger who cuts to the inside, constantly taking on his opponent and roaming on both wings to a nr 10 playmaker who roams all over the field.

He still has his explosive runs and he can still dribble the s*** out of defenders but now he picks his moments more.

apologies for not quoting you directly but when i click on Quote the text doesn't appear below for some reason.

I've already prophesied this in the Mata thread, but Juan will miss a chunk of the pre-season & PL season due to his participation in the Olympics. Hazard won't have time to form an understanding with him, and Mata could find himself on the left wing or worse. We need actual wingers out wide, regardless of the 'interchanging' roles Mata & Hazard will most likely have. Marin (signed as a mere squad player) could surprise us, leaving Mata with quite a predicament upon his return from the Olympics.
