All anti-virus is terrible, hence to why i don't use it. Slows your computer down to much. Just be smart about websites you go on and always check links before you click them and you wont have a problem.

If you had to use one, use Kaspersky or NOD32.

Avast or AVG? Avast... no contest. AVG just plain sucks.

What anti-viruses are the best? By detection rates I'd say GDATA, Avira, F-Secure, Panda, Avast, Kaspersky and ESET. But it also depends on which suits you best. www.av-comparatives.org is a good site to explore before making a decision.

It depends on what you want.

Kaspersky is the best in detecting, preventing and deleting any threat. But it slows down the PC a whole lot, and is not very user friendly (too many advanced settings).

Malwarebytes is good if you're looking for protection from trojans and spyware.

Avira is good, efficient and not too slow.

AVG is the fastest but one of the worst at detecting threats.

NOD32 gives you a great balance between PC speed and security.

But really, at the end of the day it all comes down to the user and the sites, CDs...etc he introduces into the computer.

I hope this has helped.

Kaspersky is good, but it really does slow the computer down. I had really bad experiences with Kaspersky on two separate computers, both were slow and as soon as I replaced Kaspersky, they got a whole lot faster. Advanced settings option is a plus imo... the more you can configure it your own needs, the better. If you're not much of a power user, usually default settings will do.

According to tests Avast is the fastest on-demand scanner. It's also light on resources. AVG has always been a poor av program imo... its speed is nullified by its awful detection rate. But it's better to have AVG than nothing.

I personally recommend F-Secure 2011 products. Stable, effective, quick. It also got AV-Comparatives prize of best av product in 2010. Although it's not free and hard to find medicine. Best free solutions imo are Avast or Avira (last time I checked avira was annoying, always telling you to buy it).
