Melanicus 5,208
Although he's Manchester United manager, he's definetly one of the very few people I really respect in football. In 25 years of managing Manchester United he has won:12 Premier League Titles5 FA Cup Titles4 Carling Cup Titles10 Community Shields2 Chapmions Leauge TitlesI really respect him for everything he has done with Manchester United. But why do you think he's so succesful?I've noticed, that he doesn't like "stars" in his team, such as Ronaldo, Nani, Beckham etc. He's acting really smart on transfer market, because he never overpays any footballer. He has a good eye for talents and most of young players become world-class players under his baton. What do you think? Why he's so succesful? Melanicus 5,208
I also think, very important is that he was given time. He built "his own" genereration and knew every player, because everyone went "throught" his hands. If Andre Villas-Boas will be given time, I think he can be this or even more succesful with Chelsea. manpe 10,861
Isn't it obvious why? Because he's a world-class manager, is respected by all the players and is synonymous with the club, has total backing of the manu board, has a really good scouting team and has an eye for talents.. but so it wouldn't turn into an Alex wankfest, he's still an annoying tit. I'm not playing dumb, but can someone desribe me, how can you have good "eye for talents"? You can't see, that lad will be world-class footballer in only one game, can you? You can't see, that lad will be world-class footballer in only one game, can you?Player scouting can take years, they have trained scouts/coaches who are paid to do that job, who can see details an untrained eye can't. Professional clubs rarely or never give judgement based on one game... It's actually easy to spot talent and skill, it's harder to spot potential. Peace. 4,352
Why he is so successful ? Because he sleeps with referees and officials.
dave30 728
he is a form of traditional authority . Whilst managers can be charismatic Alex Ferguson has been there for so long players know if they step out of line they will be vilified and dealt with quickly , also he is obviously a very astute and talented guy . blue out west 27
he's great at the slimy and corrupt back door dealings and pressuring the FA as well as refs. Also he's been lucky to have big transfer budgets and big money to spend on deep scouting networks which have given him pick of the top young players for decades. Tomo 21,751
I don't think he is that great a tactican. His teams have always been the best at bashing the small sides, hench why he wins league titles more frequent than knockout cups. But look at his record against the likes of Mourinho and Ancelotti (despite those 3 wins last season Carlo still has a superior record against him), and upto a couple of years ago Wenger had a superior record over him. That is what kills about barca 2009 the most is just could not have seen Fergie outsmarting Hiddink. diskoviolente 425
i don´t think he is a great tactican either. i think manu played best with that guy Queiroz or something as his assistant manager. after that they just played the most obvious and simplistic football, almost like Clough. But it backfires at them time and again, see Barca 2009, Munich 2010 at the Big Cup. Again, this weekend, playing for a draw, leaving all their best attackers on the bench when they´ve easily could´ve pushed for the win, realising that Liverpool are also crowding the midfield. most of the times they´ve just been extremely lucky. remember that season that OG was their 2nd highest scorer. they´ve been let off the hook by ref´s, collapsing teams, scrappy goals (macheda vs the villa) and so on and so forth. one could also call this winning mentality, or play to the whistle and so on and so forth. that is for what one has to give them credit for: no doubt about winning the game, or not losing it, to say the least. i´ve got loads of respect for that guy, but still, i hate united.
