European Nights

So much excitement . So many highs and some devastating lows.

I was living in France when we first qualified for the CL by beating Liverpool. Unable to get the game ,,had

no internet connection then. Eventually found the result on French tv.

A few weeks later at golf in France was introduced to David Ginola and played golf with him. Talked about

what was due to happen with qualifying for the competition proper. He was unaware they still had to play

a qualifying game . I don't think he believed me. One of my greatest memories was travelling with French fans

to Paris for the PSG game. They had got tickets but in the home section. Was wise not to wear a Chelsea

shirt ,,the atmosphere was so hostile ,,they really did hate Drogba.

In the years that have followed we seem to have been dogged by bad luck. I won't chronicle them all..

merely say Monaco.. scumpool .Barca ...still suffer the nightmare of Moscow.

BUT how lucky we have been to enjoy the excitement of the European nights .

Another year has come ,,another great European adventure

Lets enjoy ,,,perhaps it could be this year ,,,

WIN or lose ,,we are there again.

Please use this thread to share you European memories or your dreams.

First European Cup night I remember was Cup Winners Cup 1971 Final 1971 in Athens, Chelsea won 2-1

Went to qualifying 1999 v Skonto Riga 0-0 over there 3-0 here with Sutton scoring, (rarer than rocking horse shit but not a Torres goal)

Beat Barca in the quarters again in 1999 3-1 but they taught a lesson over there in front 0f 97 000 ... 5-1

Had to wait another 4 years before CL again in 2003 beating Zilina Topped the group then there was the famous 1-2 win at the goons -That Wayne Bridge goal, resulting in many fans getting a range of injuries from exhuberant celebrations.

Lots of other roller coaster CL seasons since -the Barca 4-2 being an obvious highlight. Get the feeling destined not to win the CL, but at least we've that European Cup from 1971

The win against le arse after so many shitty results before stands out for me. Bridges goal still makes me smile when i see it and he will always be remembered fondly for that (at least by me). The monaco semi was our best opportunity in my mind to win it but it was8nt to be. Good post zolayes, good luck CHELS

European aways are the ultimate away game to go to. They really are unbeatable.

First European away was to the Nou Camp in April 2009 in the semi-final. After beating Liverpool 3-1 in the first leg I instantly booked up flights and got them for £20 return we drew 0-0!

After that I went to Atheltico Madrid, this time with a bigger group of us. Stayed over for 2 nights and there was a bigger group of us, so was a much better trip. We drew that game as well 2-2 with Sergio Aguero getting both their goals. After the game the Spanish old bill decided to get there batons out and go at the Chelsea fans with them. That most certainly wasn't fun.

Then it was to the San Siro for Inter Milan. We lost the game 2-1, but after the game we found a bar run by AC Milan supports and they were really nice. They gave us free food and alcohol. Doesn't really get better than that!

Then came Zilina. When we first got them I was devestated. I thought it would be a terrible trip. I couldn't of been any more wrong. Best trip to date. €1 pints, €1.50 quadruple Vodka + Red Bull and because we bought so much alcohol they under charged us. Was never going to be a bad trip like that. I'd finally seen us win in a foreign country as well. We won the game 4-1.

After that there was a trip to South of France in December. 20 lads on the Eurostar for 8 hours was always going to end up very messy. I imagine the cleaning bill was more than what they got for our tickets...Marseille was probably the most intimidating place. It was a grim town and the locals didn't seem to take a liking to us. The police weren't friendly either as I found out when I got pepper sprayed in the escort to the ground. We lost the game 1-0.

The last European away I went on was Copenhagen. I knew Scandinavia in February was going to be cold, but -12 degrees is bloody horrible. Spent the whole time shaking. Was a great trip though, locals were friendly and there was great banter flying about. Shame that it was really expensive. Paid £8 for a pint in one place.

This season I already have Valencia, Genk and Leverkusen booked up. Cannot be any more excited, especially after remembering some of the past memories I've had. Love it! :smiliecap1:

Allianz Arena will be a great setting for the final this year, the exterior of the stadium is magnificent.

Yeah, absolutely love how they illuminate that place on the outside. It'll be nice to see how they whip that place up for the final.
