Why Female USA soccer is one of the best?

Our US men Soccer team sucks when we compete against other teams. And a lot of people point to the fact that Soccer is not our major sport, as other countries.

But our female are amongst the elite in the world.

Why is that?

Is it because soccer is mostly a popular sport around the world for mostly men and not women?

The majority of americans clearly have low attention spans, as they cannot tolerate a 0-0 tactical draw.

They need to be tossing each other around like cavemen, or hitting a bat at something into the sky.

Tennis is the only sport I can currently think of that has a global popularity amongst both men and women.

Yeah, that's true.

Tennis has grown a lot in the last decade thanks to Sampra, Federer, Nadal, and great female player like the Williams, Sharapova, Wozniack and such.

The USWNT used to be clear cut #1. Other countries have caught up to them by focusing on technique, skills, etc. - look at Germany, Brazil, Japan. The USWNT isn't as horrendous as the USMNT was Saturday night but.... the USWNT still struggles with change.

Still US women is one of the best in the world, when this sport is not even popular in USA like other countries. Especially with Brazil and England....

I agree the USWNT is still one of the best in the world. The difference is where we used the be the clear cut #1, that is no longer the case. Other countries have caught up to us and if US Soccer doesn't get their sh*t together starting at the youth ages, they will get passed by. Where you live is there buzz about the World Cup? I live in Southern CAL which is one of the supposed hot beds of soccer talent in the US. The buzz is pretty quiet.

When Marta played the the LA Sol in Los Angeles, it was sad to see the game attendance. Home Depot Center parking lot and stadium was like a ghost town. One half of the stadium was closed off and fans could only sit on one side. And the one side wasn't crowded.

The USWNT still owe much of their continued success to those who came before them - Mia, Foudy, Lilly, etc. Those women played with skill, technique, and heart. Too often I see the USWNT play a dump and chase game reliant on our speed and size. The USWNT needs to continue to evolve if we want to stay at the top and I have doubts about the leadership of US Soccer being capable of doing that.

Last thing: why is US Women's Soccer so popular in the US? Too many parents looking at soccer as the golden goose for college scholarships for their daughters.

volley, swimming, athletics, gymnastics.

Actually football is probably the most fierce sport in the world. Thats why its really difficult to women football become popular around the world.

Justin is right, football is probably the sport in the world that has this biggest difference between the genders popularity.

I rather watch some good looking chicks in the field, then some Metro Sexual guys always worried more about their looks......

It's like watching Tennis with the good looking women, Volleyball with the amazing beach body girls, and beach soccer with those amazing Brazilian girls!

Women sports is all about looks. Look at Sharapova. Good player, but she has a very unidimensional play style, not even close of being one of the best 5 women tennis players of last 10 years. Serena, Justine-Henin, Venus, Kim, Davenport, Capriati. All better than the russian. But only Federer gets more money than her.

Ana Ivanovic managed to win a GS, but Jesus, that girl is REALLY awful. After he was injured in 2008 he never played a decent match in a GS. But people are always talking about her, just because she is a hot serbian.

Yelena Ysinbayeva is really good in pole vault, if she was an ugly russian women she would not be a start as she is.

Today I was watching a game between Lisick and Bartoli in Wimbledon, of course I was supporting the german because she is hot, while the french is anything but hot.

However your stat about money is taking into account their sponsors, not the actual prize money from winning. Makes it all that much worse I expect though..
