so according to that tweet he liked, we're the ones who are refusing him? weird... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

the joke went waaaaaay over your head lol

I was initially of the same opinion as you (amazing player, very annoying and disruptive off the field so we better get rid) but am starting to rethink that. It's true that he's been a nuisance during almost all transfer windows but it's also true that despite that, we've won 3 trophies in 3 years with him as our main striker. I guess what I'm saying is that if Conte and him do manage to patch up their differences and Costa gives Chelsea some sort of assurances as to not being disruptive off the field, this whole mess we've enduring this transfer window might yet have a happy ending. If he refocuses, signs a new deal and it is clear in Chelsea's mind that he wants to be here (maybe not ahead of Atletico but still), we could save a lot of money that can be invested into great players that can help us way more than if we simply dropped 100M to go from Diego to Lukaku (which arguably is not even an upgrade) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

nah, lukaku >>> lacazette anyday there's a reason no one else battled for his signature, he isn't as good as lukaku/belotti/morata/etc
-
Another interesting thing is that as far as a month back (or at least weeks back), Lukaku was saying that he knows where he's going... and that was before the MU bid. Maybe he really did have his mind set on Chelsea from the beginning?
-
Amen! he is such a fraud, and very arrogant too his tweet from when MU bid yesterday:
-
and this IMO is the best news out of all this, that the club is finally ready to back Conte for his targets it seems
-
MU slight favorites now:
-
so he can choose between playing with his "preferred" club, the one he claims to have supported since he was a kid or to go to the manager who sold him and the one that will make his agent rich.... interesting
-
"still" as in "still committed despite the Lukaku disappointment", not as in "still for now". At least that's how I read it

Already posted this in Conte thread but maybe makes sense to repost here to avoid discussing the press' fake rumors (for those of you who'll be looking for the tweet, he hasn't tweeted it, he said it live on skysports 20 mins ago) Can we stop discussing this BS now? These lying papers come up with this BS everytime we miss out on a target

I don't get the last part, why not just bid and see what happens? why do they "fear it's too late" but do nothing?
-
one scenario could be that before this sudden MU bid, the club was hoping to get him at a cheaper price of say 50-60M and was slowly working towards this goal. Now that they've bid as much as they have, our board is suddenly forced to make a decision on whether to match it and they themselves aren't sure if it's worth it for 76M pounds. Even though we are rich, even more so after the TV deal, the amounts being discussed are quite significant and taking into account that the club was maybe expecting to cash in big time on Costa before the Conte text incident happened, and now look set to lose a significant amount, maybe they want to think this over before throwing huge cash at Lukaku... At this point, nothing would surprise me. For all I know, I could wake up tomorrow and see that he officially signed for MU or that we matched the bid and we are getting him. I see both scenarios as equally likely
-
I think Jype's post above address this issue pretty well i.e. in the beginning, we thought we were the only ones in for him so we took our time to try to get the price down and now, out of nowhere, MU has put in a significant bid. If we really want him, we have to match it now or else he'll be gone to MU and I wouldn't be surprised if the board held a meeting today to discuss whether we will or we won't match their bid
-
This may be but I'm not sure we moved on, simply for the reason that any of the other "top" strikers available would also go for an astronomical fee (belotti reportedly 100M, morata 80M, aubameyang 70M etc, and all those without the proven PL goal scoring record). So since this is the case, it wouldn't make sense to move on to others because the same problem would arise (unless, the worst case scenario is true and we will end up with a cheap solution of llorente and michy, but personally don't see that happening)
-
I agree fully with the rest of your post but as to this part, has it been confirmed that MU's bid is accepted and that we won't match it? Not 100% sure but AFAIK, it hasn't. We could still match the bid I feel
-
all you guys saying in here lukaku isn't worth X or Y amounts... a player is worth what someone is willing to pay for him, and with the new tv money and players going for inflated prices everywhere, it's natural that prices for top players skyrocket, it's supply and demand
-
he's still gonna sign for us, just watch. We will get rid of Costa very soon and then we will match their bid... may be wrong but this is my feeling Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

according to this Spanish journalist [emoji1312] "In the next few hours the signing of Diego Costa by Atletico will be official." Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

it doesn't really say anything new, just that, according to this journalist, sandro is more likely to leave than bonucci
