I wonder if conte tried it on training and for any other reason didn't play him there. It seems so obvious to play Dave as a wing-back at this point (whatever side would be an upgrade to what we have). I don't know if the problem is he doesn't have enough confidence on Zouma or Ake yet to play in defense (he might have a point there if that's the case) or if he tried Azpili and for some reason thought he isn't up to the task. I just want to know because it seems so clear to me that this is what we should do with Dave now... He really is indispensable. And I do believe he can do a job at the wing-back position, and we do need more height and defensive natural instincts = especially aerial and movement in the box. So it's all pointing to that and Conte is definitely much better on moving players to new positions than we are, so I am sure there's something preventing him from doing it... it is frustrating though to keep being found out in the same play over and over...

Also, am I wrong or Gabriel isn't nicknamed Jesus, but that's actually his middle name? But let's take from those two games that we could go the rest of the season without Costa. how many years have it been since you last watched Marcelo play consistently.... if you ever did, that is. He has improved immensely his defensive abilities and he has absolutely nothing to be ashamed of about it nowadays. So yeah, he IS solid defensively. Might not be an Azpili, but definitely solid enough.

He has physical limitations which compromise his defending abilities, but he has a good toolkit to support the attack. A good shot, good cross, decent ability to dribble in 1x1 situations, good vision. I don't know if his defensive issues can be remedied or at least diminished, I would like an improvement on him, but I also value the hard work, good presentations (especially attacking) he has done here. I did say he couldn't suck

I wouldn't want Lukaku here even if he came for free. He can't deal with playing in a big team because he doesn't have the football for it. Poacher on his best days, he gets to show some average technique every blue moon, but when a team faces him with a defensive approach or even an organized defense, he's harmless, useless and invisible. Now for mid-table teams such as Everton, struggling as usual, he's a perfect match. Most teams don't put a lot of defensive thought when playing Everton, and that's when the opportunity rises for Lukaku to shine. I have never rated him, and his fans criticized me a lot a few years ago, I'm still waiting to be proved wrong...

Conte is Italian and maybe a hot fuse (very likely). Diego is the father of all hot fuses. They had an argument, said things in the heat of the moment. They have been bromancing for weeks now. It's just the media trying to make a storm out of a teacup - even if Conte had said what they claim he did. There is a lot of pressure in top professional football, I think those rows are so minor and common. It's such a nonstory imo. It doesn't mean Diego won't end up in China eventually (I believe he won't), it doesn't mean it won't involve an apology, it doesn't mean it won't feel a bit awkward for a small while, but this happens, especially when an Italian such as Conte is at the head.
