  1. Starts for Atletico in the Madrid derby. Massive test.
  2. He looked skittish for their goal but Torres needs to mark Heitinga better and show more aggression to get ahead of him.
  3. Thought he was absolutely superb yesterday and he'd look even better around top players. Became the second-youngest player to reach 50 PL appearances after Rooney. Would happily flog Bertrand and Van Aanholt to get the funds for this guy, and we could probably quadruple his wages and still be under what we're paying Cole.
  4. Fulham did seem to push up a little in the second-half which is why Schurrle could get behind them, but he couldn't buy a first touch in the first-half whereas that cushioned ball to Hazard was perfect. Then you have to say that Hazard seemed to come inside a bit more to be there for that pass. I just think we're very lucky to have people in the squad who have been there and got the t-shirt and probably had a few words to say in the half-time break. Everything seemed to just slot into place better in that second-half. Completely speculating but I also think not having the sun right in our eyes might've helped too.
  5. It was very disjointed all round. Clattenberg didn't let the game run, there were a couple of breaks early on for injuries and no-one was setting the tempo. In the second-half Hazard seemed to come central a lot more and take a bit of responsibility. Ultimately though, we're still a team without a decent striker and increasingly looking a little lost in midfield. Jose's right in what he says that our position is false.
  6. 1-0 to Sunderland. Demichelis is absolutely appalling. Gets conned by the run by Borini and loses his man and then gives up chasing back so when Kompany doesn't make the tackle, he's got no chance of getting back. Schoolboy defending from him again.
  7. On a slight tangent, safe standing areas would actually make it safer in areas where people habitually stand already. According to some on the Liverpool forums, there's simply no reasoning with her despite Liverpool supporters being no different from other fans in their views on this issue.
  8. Underhit a few passes today when he should've done better. The same could be said for last week too, but I'll give him some credit for doing a lot of unseen stuff. Schurrle's second goal comes from good work by Oscar, first by pressing Fulham and deflecting a pass to Ivanovic, then knocking the ball onto Hazard in the build-up and finally for a great run that draws the defender away from the centre and creates the space for Hazard to pass through to Schurrle. Nothing flashy, but crucial to that goal.
  9. Southampton have been let down by their centre-halves and lack of a decent attacking threat. The full-backs and Lallana have shown a lot going forwards but there's no real help ahead of them and Liverpool have capitalised on naive and sloppy defending.
  10. Ooh....one of the big games. Could see a very similar side to the one that started at Fulham. Back five remains the same, Matic, Hazard and hopefully Schurrle. Question marks over striker (but I expect Torres to start), Ramires (Lamps would be my preference) and Oscar's place if Schurrle does retain his place. Cech Ivanovic Cahill Terry Azpi Matic Lamps Schurrle Oscar Hazard Torres
  11. Southampton vs Liverpool. Southampton: Boruc, Chambers, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, Rodriguez, Steven Davis, Lallana, Lambert. Subs: Clyne, Yoshida, Ramirez, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Gazzaniga, Gallagher. Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Flanagan, Allen, Gerrard, Henderson, Suarez, Sturridge, Coutinho. Subs: Brad Jones, Toure, Aspas, Moses, Cissokho, Sterling, Teixeira. Really interesting to see how Shaw copes with this expansive Liverpool attack. Liverpool can definitely be got at with the space they leave and Southampton press in a similar fashion to us. Could be a decent predictor for how our game against them might turn out.
  12. Him and JT are such a superb partnership and they compliment each other nicely. Cahill does a lot of JT's running for him but still manages to get back and make those last-ditch tackles. He's been key to Terry coming back to his best and might actually get a couple more seasons of service out of JT simply through taking that workload off him. What has been disappointing is the lack of a screamer at the other end. But that's literally the only thing I can fault him for and he really does deserve some recognition for what he's done come the end of the season.
  13. Comes back from injury and scores a goal. #matchwinner
  14. Statistically jaw-dropping. 81% pass completion 8 Key Passes 2 Assists 6 Dribbles Really stepped up in the second-half alongside Schurrle.
  15. Really didn't think he was that bad. Made some chances for himself, forced the keeper to make some saves, did well in the air and got an assist. He's not the world-class performer we probably need but in his second game back from injury he put in a creditable performance.
  16. Wanted him off at half-time but he really stepped up in the second-half and looked a completely different player. Been waiting for him to recapture the goalscoring form he showed in the game against Stoke and it's nice that we have a player coming into form at this point in the season. Needs to sort that barnet out though.
  17. Another uninspired, insipid first-half rescued by a great second-half performance. It's nice to have a manager who can inspire the troops at half-time, but maybe he wants to try that speech 45 minutes earlier? Delighted for Schurrle who finished beautifully but Cahill deserves credit once again for being a rock alongside JT. Hazard was magic in the second half as well and Torres made some nice runs to create space, but beyond that it's hard to pick out many other players who really pushed themselves about a 6/10. Azpi and Ivanovic were their usual secure selves and Cech made some solid saves, but looked a little indecisive for the goal (and not for the first time). Three points in the bag, Arsenal lose and Liverpool away to Southampton means a great result all things considered.
  18. Give it a rest. He had a decent game, chased the ball down and got an assist. Maybe stop gloating about inconsequential shit and give the players some credit.
  19. Cech again indecisive at a set-piece. Alan Pardew has just headbutted a player!!!!!!! Stoke have just SCORED against Arsenal.
  20. I said this after the Stoke game but I'll say it again....Schurrle reminds me a lot of Henry. Tall, elegant, nice touch (most of the time), pacy and can finish off both feet. Be inclined to play him up top.
  21. Schurrle scores....I know nothing about football
  22. Neither of them plays in the pivot and I'm sorry, but De Bruyne was poor for much of his time here. When he was given a chance he was shit - maybe it was the pressure of playing here? Well sorry diddums but them's the breaks. He can go and tear it up for a second-tier Bundesliga side and look great there. Hardly needs saying anymore though. Does so much work and helps make JT look great.
  23. He's a twat for going, but he's also not been very good on the pitch. It's been clear to see for a while and he isn't the answer. He's not that great anymore and just because he writes Left Back on his tax returns doesn't mean he deserves to play there for us. Azpi is a better left-back than him both defensively and going forward.
  24. Hazard plays well when the team plays well. He NEVER does everything on his own. He needs the other players to make intelligent runs, put him into good positions and play with a decent tempo. None of those things are happening. No need to overreact though.
  25. Schurrle's having a nightmare missing basic passes. Oscar is still in a run of poor form. Ramires is adding nothing to our play. All this means that it's nigh on impossible for Hazard to get any space or decent possession. Torres has actually looked ok, made some decent runs and had a couple of good attempts on goal and the defence is solid. But there's absolutely no-one in the middle to control the tempo. We need that guy who can actually pick a pass, spread the play and give other players a chance to shine. Willian for Schurrle and maybe Lamps for Ramires.
