Don't go off topic on the point I'm making. I didn't say Nigeria > chelsea. Its the position of play that suits him in my opinion. Lampard plays far better as a CM in a 4-3-3 the same way mikel will play far better as a CM.

Exactly. He was a central midfielder before he joined us so I feel he has never played his natural position. Even when paired with luiz, luiz goes forward and he stays back. Matic staying as the DM will show Mikels true abilities or weakness. The role also helps. He is a boss for nigeria, because he plays the role lampard is playing for us.

If mikel plays in the pivot with matic, he may be allowed to boom forward and we will see his natural game play. He has never/rarely been the more attacking CM in chelsea. If he plays with matic and is afforded that freedom, I bet people will be shocked at what he can do.

They get by matches they don't play well in by the sheer goals their strike force provides. Look at that newcastle match, no way they deserved to win that. But they always have 2 goals guaranteed, from their strikers in every match. I'm hoping the next fixture pile up takes its toll on them. And like you said their harder fixtures could prove a factor. But we may have to beat the at the etihad if every other team can't even take a point off them.

The fact that city have scored 99 goals already is incredible. They are leading everyone in europe on goals scored [barcelona(81), bayern(74), madrid(74)] I can't believe they are on course to break our 103 goals in the league, as they have 57 already in the league. They are targeting mourinho's madrid record of 160goals in all competitions and guardiola's barcelona 2010/2011 record of 190goals We might need to win them at the etihad, because I don't know where they will drop points again since they just basically outscore the opposition.

Mourinho's true way he sees us playing relies heavily on the linkup of the striker with the midfielders. He said this a lot at the beginning of the season, high pressing and a striker that can linkup without space. This is lukaku's biggest weakness, and even though he would have been better than all we have right now, unless he develops and gets better in his weakness, mourinho won't feel like everything is complete. This is why he went after rooney and loaned lukaku to everton who play with ball to feet so that lukaku will develop his weakness. Regarding the buying policy of our club, I'm even more disappointed that bertrand was not given a proper chance ahead of cole. Left back is not as crucial as the striker, so we could have coped with any development bertrand needed in the first place.

I'll honestly take diego costa over rooney in the summer. A younger striker, who is not injury prone. But you are right in the sense that there are few options. He has had a good season too as expected. But the injuries can only get worse when he gets older and its making rooney look like a serious gamble to me. He'll also be 30 next season, which means in 2 years we'll be hunting for another top striker again.
