Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Fernando Torres will miss Sunday's clash with Chelsea. Torres suffered a hamstring strain in Spain's friendly with France on Wednesday and will now sit out the trip to Stamford Bridge. The striker had claimed that he asked to be taken off by coach Luis Aragones as a precaution after feeling a twinge, but it has now been revealed that the injury is worse than first feared. The news comes as a major blow to Benitez who is already set to be without Daniel Agger, Andrei Voronin, Alvaro Arbeloa, Fabio Aurelio and the suspended Xabi Alonso for the game against Avram Grant's side.

Liverpool could be without their leading scorer Fernando Torres for the trip to Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday after he appeared to suffer a hamstring injury playing for Spain against France last night. Torres had to be substituted after 23 minutes of the match in Malaga when it became clear he was struggling and Spain's coach, Luis Aragones, replaced him with Daniel Guiza of Mallorca

Barcelona have warned Chelsea off making a move for Brazil superstar Ronaldinho in the summer. Ronaldinho has found himself in and out of the Barcelona team this season amid rumours he had fallen out with the management and was out of shape. He has been linked with big-money moves to Chelsea, Milan and Inter Milan but Barcelona club president Joan Laporta insisted: 'As I have said many times, we don't want to sell Ronaldinho. He has a contract, and he has said he is happy at this city and this club. 'Barcelona's obligation is to try to help him recover so that he returns to be how he was before. We are very grateful to him for what he has done for us.'

As much as you might hate his constantly moaning face, even the biggest anti-Scouser Chelsea fan would surely love to see Stevie G wearing the blue shirt of Chelsea. We all know he came within an absolute whisker of signing on at Stamford Bridge once before, so is this now the time to try to lure him to the south once again? With Liverpool unable to shake off the skinflint American owners, and a new ground proving too expensive before building has even started, if Roman ploughed in with a ludicrous offer, Liverpool would probably find it hard to refuse right now. £30million, £50million, the world's first £100million player... Roman can afford it. What's more Avram is one of the world's few people who think he can work in a midfield with Chelsea legend Non-fat Frank. "I don't think it's a problem if you talk about Lampard and Gerrard," The Toad told Chelsea's website, concerning the duo playing in England's midfield together. "It is always good when you have good players that like to work on the pitch, if you have lazy players it's a problem. But if you have good players it's not a problem, you can fix the tactics that it will be useful for everybody. It is always good." So if Ronaldinho's top of the summer shopping list, and Quaresma presumably second, maybe... just maybe the new (temporary) England captain should be third. Let me know what you think. http://www.chelseapies.tv/2008/02/is_it_ti...ea_to_laun.html

Leicester have given a trial to Chelsea defender Harry Worley as manager Ian Holloway looks to further strengthen his squad. Worley, 20, a product of the youth academy at Stamford Bridge, played for the Foxes reserve-team in Tuesday's 2-2 draw against Coventry. Holloway, who made his seventh new signing when he brought in Jamie Clapham from Wolves on a short-term contract last week, said: "The player has not been offered a new contract by Chelsea, so we are having a look at him." Worley is the second Chelsea youngster that Holloway has expressed an interest in after admitting earlier this week that he has enquired about a loan deal for Scott Sinclair, who he also signed on loan during his time as Plymouth boss

Joe Cole has emerged as a shock target for <a href="http://kop-tv.com/go/transfer-news/Chelsea-star-targeted-by-rafa/#" target="_blank">Rafa Benitez</a> has he prepares for a mass overhaul at Anfield during the forthcoming summer months. Cole, has been at Stamford Bridge since 2003 after a £6.6million move as part Roman's Empire building scheme and is worth in the region of £11million. It appears that Benitez has finally lost all patience with <a href="http://kop-tv.com/go/transfer-news/Chelsea-star-targeted-by-rafa/#" target="_blank">Harry Kewell</a> after a string of mediocre performances and looks set to end his injury-savaged career at the end of the season, prompting Rafa to go in search of a quality winger who will bring creativity and ambition to the team, with Chelsea's Joe Cole emerging as a realistic replacement. Cole, who can happily play on either wing, was constantly linked with a return back to his former club at West Ham United throughout 2007 but would welcome the opportunity to continue playing in Europe's elite competition, the Champions League, so providing Rafa and his Red army can march onwards and upwards to that all-important fourth place in the league, we will continue in attracting players of Joe's calibre. <a href="http://kop-tv.com/go/transfer-news/Chelsea-star-targeted-by-rafa/" target="_blank">http://kop-tv.com/go/transfer-news/Chelsea...rgeted-by-rafa/</a>

The 21 year old has been described as a mixture between Pablo Aimar and fellow Ghanaian international Michael Essien. He currently plays for Norwegian outfit IK Start after joining from Accra Hearts of Oak last year, a Ghanaian league side. It is thought Annan caught the attention of one of Avram Grant's scouts at the African Cup of Nations over the last few weeks.

Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of Ronaldinho, according to reports in Spain Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's billionaire owner, allegedly paid a visit to Barcelona over the weekend with the aim of pushing ahead transfer talks for the 27-year-old Brazil striker. Abramovich is a huge admirer of Barcelona's superstar and has already held several meetings with Ronaldinho's agent and brother Roberto de Assis, as revealed exclusively by Sportsmail last August. The Russian tycoon was reported in Barcelona's Sport newspaper to have been seen entering and leaving a house in the Catalan capital's upmarket suburb Pedralbes, together with his entourage on Sunday. However reports in the UK have emerged placing Abramovich in London over the weekend. Although it is believed he did not travel to Fratton Park on Saturday to watch Chelsea's 1-1 draw at Portsmouth. Barca have previously placed prohibitive price tags of up to £85million on their star player's head. But, sensing their mutual love affair with Ronaldinho is over, they are willing to lower their demands. And money will be no object for Abramovich as he seeks to turn Chelsea into Champions League winners - and make them once again capable of running away with the Barclays Premier League title. Ronaldinho's future at the Nou Camp has been plunged into major doubt this season, with a dip in his form being greeted by jeers from club fans. And it is an open secret in Catalonia that Barca's one-time favourite will be on his way during the close season. He has been with the club since 2003, and is under contract for three more years. A two-time FIFA World Player of the Year, he has inspired Barca to the Champions League and two La Liga title. But the playmaker would now relish the chance of a fresh challenge at Stamford Bridge, where he would be welcomed by Brazilian compatriot Alex and fellow Portuguese speakers Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreira. Barca currently lie six points behind La Liga leaders and arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Chelsea are ready to launch a bid for Olympique Lyon sensation Karim Benzema. The People says in the space of a few months Benzema has established himself as probably the best young striker in the business and Chelsea plan to beat everyone to his signature. It is an open secret that Didier Drogba wants out and Chelsea are convinced that Benzema can fill his boots. Grant has already landed Benzema's French international teammate Nicolas Anelka for £15m and the pair could play together for club and country next season.

Along with the Brazilian, Chelsea are also keen on Barca youngster Giovani dos Santos. tribalfootball.com
