I do somewhat agree in that I would be intrigued to see what we are like with a proper DM. Matic style protecting the back 4 that let's the attacking players concentrate more on the attack. But when you factor into the fact that rice is gonna cost a shit ton and the potentially selling of kante to fund it then I'm less intrigued. But a proper DM would add something to the squad rotation for sure and allow us to have a solid base against big teams if we want 2 actual DMs. The fact we only have 1 DM and people would argue that Kante isn't really a "proper" DM is an issue. Reece james holding? Ampadu would have been good to give a chance in there maybe.

We haven't seen kante of 2020 barring 3 games though. He was our best player vs pool. So we don't know that. If he's over his injuries of last year then he may well still be our best player.

Until kante clearly isn't our best player (and 1 poor game this season isn't enough evidence for that) he shouldn't be sold. Especially if its to be replaced with just declan rice. Rice may be good and do a job. But kante is still better. Nah keeping kante and getting rice would be fine but just letting kante walk to replace with rice wouldn't make any sense. He is our best player in the big games. Now in games vs like West Brom he may not be needed to play alongside a more "normal" DM but vs any bigger team he's still first name on the team sheet.

Pully and ziyech not quite ready per the press confence. I'd imagine they don't play this week and then play when we get back from international break. Pulisic doesn't have any games with the USA so if he leaves him out these 2 then he effectively has another 3 weeks to fully get over the injury unless he wants to give him a 30 min run out at the weekend.

Because beating spurs means a lot regardless of the competition and we can't say we were firing on all cylinders. We have the international break coming up so from a Chelsea stand point we are looking at 2 games before players go off elsewhere. Sure can play Ross or tomori in place I don't think we lose much with either of those on place. But with Werner he has looked really good in 2/3 games so I think if we can get him a goal and some confidence he can kick on. But I can see arguments for rotating but I think silva needs game time and if zouma is fit (no idea what happenned to zouma) then we should develop the centre back and keeper partnership and try to stick with that throughout the prem. Chilly needs game time etc. Attacking we can go various ways but I'd like to see some sort of established back line get a good run of games together the only difference being reece/azpi blending in. But of all our defence azpi or reece are the ones I'm least worried about it.

I don't think Jose is gonna put out a strong team. If he plays the second string. They either lose and he has the easy excuse of them losing the game because of the scheduling. If they beat us they beat us with the second team and he looks even better. It's kind of a win win for him.

Let's hope chilly B is made out of Mason mount material when he comes back and then we don't have to worry about left back the rest of the year.

Put it this way. Hardly anyone said anything about alonso starting before hand when the teams come out. Because it's a choice of playing a right footed azpi out of position which isn't great. Emerson who has been poor other than the game vs Barnsley or alonso who is error prone but can offer a goal going forwards. Neither is a great option. Of course everyone jumps on the decision after alonso fucks up. But it's to fill a hole. We knew we had an issue which is why we spent 50 mil on a left back. Sure going forwards I don't think we can start alonso even if we lose something going forward playing azpi. But hindsight is a wonderful thing. We need our wingers back fit. The difference was we didn't make individual mistakes. Another day we are 2 nil up in the first half. Just an extremely bad start. The alonso errors are recurring so that is something we could maybe of forseen to some extent but can't account for a silva error. Just a completely shit start that I doubt you'd ever see again. Get mendy in there from now on chillwell hopefully if fit and go from there. I don't feel like willy was at fault but a new keeper in there may boost the confidence of that defence which is clearly shot at the moment.
