  1. Prob helps your argument, but people's memory of Mount is kinda funny. He was decisive in a way Conor not yet dreamt of. In 21 CL run he scored in the quarters (Porto), semis (Real Madrid), and assisted in the final. It's also a bit soon to praise that sale given his age, and the season he had -- would be akin to rule out Nkunku because of his fitness struggles. Kai was struggling too until he wasn't. I agree your assessment tho. If I were forced to give a contrarian argument, would just say that having a player clicking the way Conor has, isn't something to disregard so quickly. Also that some of or subs in midfield are very green and/or not very good (Ugo).
  2. considering the values involved in transfers these days, that looks awful low.
  3. I really like Nkunku, but not sure his fitness struggles should be ignore by us, much less by the club. One can say we've been unlucky with injuries past season, but the only player who has no injury history and became unavailable for much of the season was Enzo. Maybe Lavia too, as he has no history yet . What if Jackson picked a knock? Or Caicedo? I don't see any player in the squad who can do Caicedo's job remotely at the same level. This is all thinking about becoming competitive; from what I see and hear so far it's going to be another "building" season, unless it's again transfer market talk.
  4. yeah I like these aggressive wingers. Nkunku remaining fit would help evidently, so that's a big question mark. Hope the physios are taking a look there.
  5. I'd very much like a left winger tho. We will have to go against the likes of Doku, Luis Diaz, Martinelli/Trossard, Son, Mitoma, Garnacho/Rashford and Olise himself. They are all much superior to what we got unless Sterling gets his shit together which is a big "if." (I'd add Timo to the list too and even Grealish would have a say here) Hmm yes, Nkunku could fill that role and he's a very good player, big question regarding fitness tho.
  6. Moneyball approach which certainly works in a stats-heavy game like Baseball. Regarding Sanchez, I'd not read too much into it; it might be a message to the transfer market saying that we are not desperate to sign a goalie, in an attempt to lower the price.
  7. heh I know it will work very well for him. Potter is still on his well-paid vacation. I just hope it works for the club!
  8. man 6 staff members... I'm old school 😃 Remember when it was Manager and his assistant, and *maybe* his fav fitness coach.
  9. Probably, but again, we do the best we can not to end up with Hitler as commander in chief. It's NOT a binary choice here: there are quite distinct levels of abuse. Some people do conflate fraud with mass fraud, for example. It's incredibly more difficult to spot and prevent small things, but it gets easier when it's done in large scale: applies to much of crime in general. Regarding taxes, you do tho. We do have control over that at local and federal level. It depends which party we elect and the the policies behind that. I don't care too much myself as I have the luxury to not care, but I can certainly emphasize with colleagues and friends if they feel otherwise.
  10. Good post. Not sure I agree that religion plays a lesser part in wars, but do agree with the rest. Also that we'd find other ways to wage wars as well, as we have in the past. They would be prob smaller in scale tho: Yuval Noah Harari wrote in Sapiens something like (haven't found the exact quote) that religion is the most effective way to make people who have little in common, and don't even live near each other, fight for the same cause in a war. In short, religion can increase the number of people involved in wars in a drastic way.
  11. In engineering we know that no system is perfect. This is obvious to any engineer, because we deal with tradeoffs in a daily basis. And yet the majority of the population expect systems, like the Electoral system or the Political system, to be perfect. That's very silly IMO. We do the best we can, and try to minimize the corruption in politics by eliminating the people who abuse the system. Which is what some of us here say about trump, as there have been few politicians in the US (yes he is very much one) who abused the system like he did and does. Yeah "voting website" or voting local office, does not mean anything to me, so can't comment. I'm very familia with security in computer systems given that's part of my work. There very good mechanisms to verify identify, many of which are used when you make online purchases, and they work very well, evidently. BTW, the US elections are manual -- there are no electronic ballots given those fears.
  12. You just described a selfish point of view: as long as things are going well for me, my fellow countrymen can screw themselves. Human beings live in a society for a reason. "waste of time they are all corrupt" really makes the job of corrupt politicians a lot easier. Some of them are indeed corrupt, and it is our job, the ones who elect them to hold them accountable, because evidently no one else will. I mostly agree with your other points, so not really sure how they relate. 🙂 Yes, selfish views are usually unapologetic for some strange reason. There was a time I thought exactly the same. In the end of the day tho, we still live in that same society, and the decisions made by these politicians can directly affect your life. Taxes, laws, wars... they all can. Regarding the discussion in itself, the weird part is coming to "Politics & Stuff" and complaining that people are discussing "Politics & Stuff". 🤷‍♂️
  13. Smart move. It will get Biden a lot of political points. from now until Election Day decisions will be very political in nature. That’s how the game is played.
  14. Whatever, I specifically mentioned the one point you made (and nothing else), but you keep ignoring that, so 🤷‍♂️
  15. Good for you. That's a very selfish way of thinking. When you mention specific fabricated data which came from Murdoch's "news" sources it kinda suggests that you do; regardless of what you may think. Your microcosm isn't picked, but comes from your source of news as well as your social circles.
  16. Heh nobody here so far was talking about the merits of the lawsuit; I particularly think it was a weak case. He did break the law and got caught tho--that's simple enough for most people who actually read about it. I'd rather he found guilty for the stuff he was indeed guilty of: asking for votes in Georgia and the attack against the Capitol, which ended up with actual casualties, but that's me. Now, I personally consider anything who thinks that what happen on that day (Jan 6 2021) is OK is a fucking moron. You lose all credibility with the ridiculous shit about Clinton tho--straight from Murdoch's ass. You just showed which microcosm you navigate towards. Yes, it's a different one, but still one.
  17. Trump runs a cult following. Trump voters wouldn’t change their mi d even if he murdered someone on the street. I thought that was self-evident. The point is the effect on the undecided, and there was an interesting poll some time ago about “what if Trump got convicted”. If Trump only gets votes from “Trump voters” he loses again just as badly.
  18. You are conflating different things.... on purpose? The effect on the election is nuanced as stated before. Being a felon even changes his rights. It's kinda big deal esp given that he's the first former US press ever to be convicted. Ads on tv and online reminding people Trump is a convicted felon will go on until the Election Day.
  19. Carbajal had a fantastic game actually.
  20. Yeah man good tactics get you there but it’s hard to beat a club that has that much quality on the pitch and on the bench.
  21. Evidently Maatsen shouldn’t be starting a CL final. There is a cost to that. BTW, poch was right in not playing him at LB.
  22. Should’ve been 2 nil Bellingham miss way too long to apply the finish
  23. Oh well could see that coming a mile away. good players always find a way to win these matches.
  24. Reus coming off the bench is quality right there.
  25. Dortmund D remains impressive both in possession and defending.
