  1. Subs were spot on for me but perhaps a bit late? Like I wrote earlier, for me lavia and madueke were pretty poor.
  2. It was a bad first touch there was no reason for the penalty! So poor from sanchez…. 😕
  3. Game is more open in the second. garnacho playing like shit lucky for us.
  4. Thought Lavia was pretty poor actually. for me Caicedo is the one doing all the work there. It’s prob best I seen him play. madueke has been poor too.
  5. yup, and that's exactly my point: what is Maresca goal with the team? Posh was a low block with quick transition. We seem to be moving towards a mid/high block with a bit more possession, but I wonder how much of a positional/possession buff he is. If it City style or nothing, or he will sit somewhere in between. Which players we stick with and go for is entirely dependent on the answer above.
  6. Eden Hazard was a family man who would be the polar opposite to Neymar lifestyle, and yet they had very similar issues on the pitch as players who simply refused to pay the price to become one of the selected few, to be an elite athlete. Not worried about that, but it could indeed be playing a part in his current form. Going through a divorce can be taxing...
  7. Don't think that's the only thing hurting them atm, but my point earlier wasn't how important Rodri is, but how City does not employ a ball-winning Caicedo type. City have won the league plenty without both Rodri and without Haaland--they just don't employ a ball-winning mid type.
  8. He's 18 and plays in one of the most contested positions in football... not to mention fighting for spots with the likes of Mbappe, Vini, and Rodrygo. Don't think Estevao would be getting too many minutes in that situ either. Too soon to rule him out. Weird move. He's already 19, and I'd rather have him playing in a more competitive league--VISA problems?
  9. Yes, we can see that we depend on Caicedo and someone else winning tackles in the middle. It's the current situation, no doubt. Who does City depend on to win tackle in the middle? That's why they will win once again even without Rodri (who's not a Caicedo player either).
  10. Way too soon. Early season and only now we see the manager's hand in the team. I bet he's not done either, so lots more adjustments coming. Players go in and out of form throughout the season. Aside from Caicedo (always a 7 with a small variance for me) and Cole, most other players have great games and poor ones. There are injuries and all, so I don't mind having good players fighting for spots one bit. Last season nobody was fighting for spots given the lack of depth. If Enzo isn't the player, then Lavia will need to turn into a more creative force, or we will have to go to the market. Perhaps making Cole drop a bit deeper... the goal is to compete with City, and the bar is very high. Liverpool showed that we are not really there yet.
  11. Worked for Ronaldinho and Ronaldo #9 just fine 😅 Seriously though, it's not a binary choice: family and/or church or the night life. Plenty of players can balance their single's life just fine. yes, you have players like Neymar who clearly struggled physically and it's obvious that his life style play a part.
  12. Good analysis and at the same time it contains the implicit "for the way we are setup." If Maresca's goal is indeed going for City and Arsenal positional system, then the deep lying protectors aren't required to be that great at winning tackles. In that system, winning the ball back is the responsibility of the entire team, but all players need to be good in possession--don't think Enzo would have a problem in that system tbh.
  13. 🤦‍♂️Biden had one job: shut the fuck up. And then he goes and repeats the disastrous remark from Hilary Clinton. BTW, "reluctant Trump voters" for me were always Trump voters, however article or polls want to paint them.
  14. There is a particular thing that I look for to identify a very special player (esp in attack): the first touch is not only used to control the football, but to start the next play. Against Newcastle, Cole dribbled past players with his first touch alone. He often passes into space with his first touch, which makes him a nightmare to deal with given that the opposition cannot even foul him easily if the ball isn't there. I think he has the potential to be better than KDB, but yeah only time will tell.
  15. How do you know? Would he not be a charlatan if “the quality of his thoughts” were not influenced by drugs or the amount of it? this goes into methodology and even personal, so no, not something I’d consider the most important aspect when discussing his work.
  16. His insights into the unconscious made a lot of sense and are still very much relevant. we now know that our minds are very much an uncontrollable association machine: we cannot stop that process because it’s not under our control (interesting book: “the way we think” prob outdated by now)… it’s very much affected by our memory, which is also not under our control. I am usually not a fan of applying modern knowledge, standards, and especially sensibilities to different times. Not long ago most doctors would suggest smoking as cure. Go back a bit over a century and they did not cleanse wounds or wash their hands.
  17. I can understand the point of view and don’t dispute the findings about his work. Just think that he did provide new insights into how our mind works at the time. Similar discussion here That’s irrelevant imo.
  18. The intent of my reply wasn’t to change anything about how the world sees him today. Whether Freud was a charlatan, by modern standards, or not is irrelevant. He made people think about a lot of things for the first time—not that many people in history can claim that.
  19. Science does not require belief. Personally I think the use of the word "debunked" is unscientific: it implies a mere thought as opposed to the accepted science at some point. Science evolved from his time, but his theories and work were important at the time. Newton was wrong plenty, but there is no Einstein without him.
  20. Yeah, she is/was in a bind (-en nope not going to do it 😅). Just think she did not have to say, "nope, would've done everything exactly the same." Could've have said that they could have adjusted a thing or two, you know, in hindsight. Politics is funny too tho: there is the notion that flip-flopping on issues is a terrible thing, which is bizarre. It's like people aren't allowed to learn and/or change their minds. Biden's point is interesting tho. Hard to say how much of the demographic wanted more of the same, some normalcy, but I think most people were upset about the inflation and they unfairly blame it on Biden. Presidents have as much control of inflation as they have of oil prices, or the weather (for MAGA readers, the last one is still *none* 😆).
  21. For the record, I really dislike Biden as president. He was a (career) politician for a different time… weak in general esp on immigration. Harris did not do a good job separating herself from some of his policies, mostly inactions of the president — I’m sure she’d act differently in certain cases. inflation has little to do with Biden though. Perhaps a bit more with Trump and his tax breaks, but really it was the pandemic. Democratic Party does not get how unpopular ID politics can be. Think there is plenty of evidence of that without needing to do any research. Like I said, the issue I have with Trump is simple: he should’ve been disqualified from running. it’s akin to a team in sports which lose then cheat to overturn the result. Say Chile fiasco at the Maracanan back then.
  22. Accelerate a Putin win. His relationship with that dictator is weird to say the least. Wouldn’t surprise me if Putin feels encouraged and keeps going. you clearly never received the full picture of Jan 6, which is the problem we have these days. Nyt reported extensively about how much planning it took. The lack of national guard or any police response hours after it started…. Everything was planned and Trump speech as-is right there was pretty damning. ”fake electors” plot was part of it as well. Lots of information on it as it is part of the the federal lawsuit. Fox News will never show any of it just like they will not show the raw footage. All of that can be found, but people *receive* their news nowadays not look for it. I used to live in DC and there was more policing on a “tourist day” Sunday than that day.
  23. Jan 6 did happen and it was not a standalone incident, so I don't quite understand what more proof people need regarding the impact that Trump will have in the US government given that it is (still) a democracy. Ukraine will insta-lose the war, for example. Trump will call a win, of course, but it will be a loss to Ukraine. Just read what *most* of his former aides say about Trump in the office. The fact that Fox News does not report on this does not mean it's not there. There are so many unprecedented things happening with Trump that I have a hard time understanding why it is so hard to spot any of the "red flags" around him.
  24. Yeah. Check Anne Applebaum on YouTube videos, or articles. There was one in particular where she lists Iran, Russia, and N. Korea as an "Axis of Evil" of sorts, but even then she says that the relationship is of convenience--no grand plan or scheme. This one (long)
