It’s not an analysis, but a fan video. It handpicks specific plays depicting his most glaring deficiencies as strengths. His holdup play is nonexistent. He loses most disputes in the air with his back to the defender, which is evident when contrasting with giroud who wins most of them (his strength). tammy has qualities esp finishing, obviously, but he’s not there yet even as a limited striker. He has long ways to go to become a good player, let alone great.

I hear you, and certainly wasn’t thinking about sympathy here ;), but different things. zillionaires still seek more money even if they don’t need it... and they don’t. we are also talking about a very tiny percentage of players who get to this level. The vast majority don’t really make a lot of money playing football. regardless, by 30yo they are looking into what they will do next, esp attacking players.
-
Optimist side agrees with you. The cynic says, “it’s Bayern’s problem.” At least no news is good news - it means they are still talking.

I will always wonder what if mourinho had not overworked Oscar as the 4th mid for that title win. On the other hand a competent wildcard, 4th mid, workhorse, is key to winning silverware.

Right on! tend to be too negative at times as well even like the super sad indie songs the most. In my defense, I get paid to see worst-case scenarios. Dunno whether that’s cause or consequence. However, in football, being able to see things from a different POV, seems to work for me. Footballers have a very short career, so it is just natural they think about money most of the time.
-
You are prob right. Sad when losing a promising youngster to Bayern isn’t the worst-case scenario.

Notice that all mentions of playing time being a factor, likely just PR from agent, are 6mo+ old including the quotes posted above. Would be naive to not consider the possibility he may sign with a rival in Jan.

DUI are tricky. Was he really impaired, or caught at a random stop after having a couple? Latter is just a money-grabbing thing (not very scientific). based on his behavior it is likely the former tho. Either way, don’t understand why rich footballers want to drive cars esp after having a few.

He has lots to improve on. He's got loads of potential... not only his ability to score and press, but his control is pretty tight, which enables him to do pretty much anything on the pitch. But he needs to learn how to slow down the game at times to fend off pressure. None of our youngsters, unsurprisingly so, do that well enough, which makes defending a lead very difficult.
-
Indeed! specifically a striker with different characteristics. More skillful? I understand folks are enthusiastic with Tammy atm, but it wouldn't surprise me if his form dipped esp against stronger opposition. To me Bats and Tammy are both very similar. Poachers. They are both not very good with the ball at their feet and don't hold the ball up particularly well. Tammy actually isn't that great in the air yet, despite his height - though this is def one area I expect him to improve on.
-
Hmm wasn’t sarri the one and only manager who gave him the spot in the starting xi? However you feel about Alonso he was an important player under conte and winning the pl at that! it is just natural, as things happen in clubs, that Alonso had the benefit of the doubt, even in a back 4. I give little value to good performances against weak opposition. We can easily find willian in a great showing against a nobody in sa. We should aim higher. I guess for me to see what you guys see in Emerson, he needs to improve his final ball a bit. I’m not saying he’s got to score in every game, but he needs to become a threat when left alone and I don’t yet see that. For me right now he’s only a decent/good player nothing more.

Nowhere good enough at this level. Squad player at best. perhaps an improvement over zouma, but that’s not too hard.
-
Not sure Italy is far enough. May accidentally catch a game or two and see lukaku “play” football.
-
“Play out form the back” with fucking zouma really? 😆 guy can’t even run right much less pass the football. How nice of Lampard... way too honest! Instead, should have told luiz he was an important player for him. Then slowly phase him out. Fuck luiz! Let him go by Jan... Heh frank has every right to prefer a diff type of player. However, leaving us only with zouma, who also does not fit his playing style (Luiz is twice the passer tho), is specifically what I disagree with. Seemed like yet another rookie mistake.
-
Age MAY not be that important, but experience is extremely important especially in defense. PL experience is also well-priced. I honestly can believe I am here making this point. Evidence? See every other club starting xi. Way too early to discuss who’s who in the season tho. with azpi, https://www.transfermarkt.us/premier-league/durchschnittsalter/wettbewerb/GB1 the ironic thing here is that folks may think I’m against the youth when in fact I want to enable them to be successful.
-
Exactly! Do a bit better in 1v1s which is easier said than done, will help very little esp against stronger opposition. good wingers/forwards will always have the edge if they can isolate defenders however good they may be. That’s why managers keep the lines compact. even in the goal we conceded, azpi was all alone without any cover or help near him at the end of the game defending a lead at that! That’s just a no-no and is happening way too often. finally, given our situation and the number of inexperienced players in the squad, it does not matter if a 19yo can slightly improve 1v1s. We cannot afford to lose azpi’s experience at this time. He is the key player to help us getting this shit together.
-
Sounds about right. Sheffield was indeed bizarre... perhaps a hint of arrogance ignoring what was happening on the pitch? You are right. Maybe I really meant a long forced transition which includes overusing youngsters from the academy. I’ve actually seen it before and did not work very well then. there is a reason top clubs don’t rely as much in their academies for the starting xi.
-
That’d be a perfectly acceptable outcome, but some of us are worried about a very different one. I’ve been through a few of these so called transitions, it usually means someone fucked up. That is because the best clubs have no rebuilding, just a constant organic and Gradual replacement of the players who are past with new talented ones. whether they come from the academy or elsewhere matters little, perhaps only for NT supporters. thats by far the best way to develop youth imo. Barca is probably the best club at this transition. You can’t build a winning mentality by losing and struggling. No one will be happy if we are losing games over and over again. Young players will start questioning their abilities (and managers) and lose confidence, far more than established players. Winning is very important esp for younger players. That’s why the best way to do this is slowly and with established role models who they can learn from. Speaking of greed, Cho is yet to sign a contract and he is the closest thing, potential wise, to a Neymar (a few years away and still unlikely to me). I understand folks want the nice guy, the cool kid, but football is about winning and for that you need a good order of both grit and talent. The latter is especially difficult to find or produce, which is why it is so expensive. a more realistic outcome is that half of these youngsters will not cut it. Once the window reopens for us they have to be at least as good as the ones we can afford for their positions. Otherwise they will either go (sold/loan) or be used as squad players, which is fine of course. I guess nothing more to do other than watch and support the team now. And hope the outcome is more like what you described.
-
Fair enoug. I’m not going to pretend to know for sure if his poor performances are entirely down to lack of help, because I don’t know. What I do know is that there are too many variables right now, most of which are caused by employing too many inexperienced players at once (pulisic included), not to mention the inexperienced manager. I see the game, in particular defending, in layers: a guy gets beaten, but he does just enough for the next layer (cover) to sweep it (regain possession). I’m not seeing enough of that first challenge and then followed by the cover right now. I think our defending is broken in a more fundamental way than a struggling rb. I wish it were as easy as azpi struggling, but I don’t really think it is. The youth will often escape criticism, as it should be, but to not see the naive game Tomori had (even if guy has loads of potential) that is just denial imo.
-
Reckon you put too much trust in external communications. Player and agent will never write something that will put them at odds with the supporters. we don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. Perhaps the club was telling him, "sign a new deal and you will get playing time." Who knows? Again the problem is that by then, with Bayern interest, the club had little leverage because he no longer needed to play to attract buyers.
-
That’s speculation. The evidence we have is that the playing time mattered less than folks here make it out to be.
-
That’s not he point, is it? It’s about letting klutz luiz leave in the situation we are in. You are fine with it, and I’m not. I think it was yet another, of many, mistakes by lamps and his aides so far. Sure if he does not trust luiz as a cb, can certainly relate, get someone better as soon as you have an opportunity. That decision left us with zouma.
-
Enjoy your zouma buddy btw, just watched the game. Luiz was good against spurs. The “clanger” you mean the bad positioning for the first goal, that left sun still facing 4 other arsenal players who still couldn’t stop the play? That’s a team mistake in my book.
-
Yes I absolutely am. Regarding why, perhaps I wasn’t clear in my opinion. Probably my own fault. i absolutely believe they are all letting the team down and azpi is struggling because of them, not the other way around. Had he had senior players, ready players (not prospects) around and in front of him, his life would’ve been much easier. the mistakes youngsters make all the time are 100% ignored here. When Tammy shows too much of the football and is easily dispossessed it is ok because he’s young and scores. Azpi was playing alongside a very green cb next to him for crying out lot! things are just a bit more nuanced in team sports. Passing the ball is all about the opposition too! We don’t know what James will do in the PL yet do we? My point remains the last thing this teams needs right now is yet another 19yo especially replacing the captain and the only defender who can read the game atm. in short, replacing azpi at this time has to the the craziest thing I’ve heard. stats are also nuanced. Is he being dispossessed because he suddenly can’t pass, or because he has no clear targets working close to him and moving into empty spaces to pass to? he actually made a brilliant play assisting Tammy in last game.
-
Learned that Azpi's fault yesterday was allowing that one decent cross in our box. Of course that led to a goal, because well they always do. The fact wingers go 1x1 with him constantly, because our beloved youngsters cannot string two passes together to keep possession is not talked about. The brilliant solution here is to, yes! just add another youngster to the starting XI! I mean if one of the best defenders in the league is not working momentarily, well because the rest of the team is clueless, let's replace him for someone we never seen play a PL match before. That makes total sense! I mean we play, and especially defend, like a championship team, so it makes sense to bring on yet another championship player. Chelsea now is the place where we can watch promising youngsters before they actually learn how to play! There might be a way to monetize this.
