  1. LOL They never used him like that! Utd never lumped it up to their CF. He was almost used as a false 9, came deep to collect and help build attacks. Anyway I seriously doubt Jose sanctioned the purchase of Remy because he thought he would be ideal when we want to play more direct, Drogba was.
  2. No idea what you're talking about.
  3. I like my fullbacks to be able to defend... Just my own personal taste. Yaya was the best, I'm not sure he's the same player today. Still a deadly goalscorer but not exactly the box to box presence he once was... He's 31 now. As I said, I think its close we're probably splitting hairs here but I would say we have a more complete, balanced squad than City.
  4. Not sure, it'll be released in the coming days. Doesn't mean it hasn't been assigned though
  5. What are we talking about here? I agree Rooney has different qualities to Remy but do you think Wayne can hold up the ball? Remy offers something DIFFERENT to what we already possess, we are looking for a plan B not A and A2.
  6. Nope... But they are close. Hart is garbage. Their back four minus Kompany is laughable. Yaya is a presence but doesn't win a ton of balls in the midfield nor does he tackle. I guess Fernando and Fernandinho are mostly responsible for that but I'd take what we have in Matic/Ramires/Mikel in that role. The only place I would say they have a definite advantage is striker, mainly because of the options they have.
  7. But that's not why he was purchased... If you say he was better than them in that regard( I'm not really gonna bother agreeing or disagreeing) then that is just bonus. Rooney was our target the whole summer, not for his hold up play but his technical ability and link up play. That is how I envision Remy.
  8. The fact that through this entire exchange you haven't once mentioned who you think would've been a better buy speaks volumes to me. You may be somewhat... actually no. But at any rate, Chelsea have built the most complete, balanced squad in the Prem. Most of the teams I think you are looking at play a two striker system, not one.
  9. our main striker needs to be able to hold up the ball, thats not true for our secondary striker... Eto'o is who Remy is replacing.
  10. You expect him to be used in that fashion?
  11. I think the numbers for the season have already been submitted.
  12. So what do you offer as an alternative????!!! City have all those strikers and broke the FFP, its not something I want to see happen here at Chelsea regardless of who isn't abiding by it. They broke the rules and only won the title by 2pts... that says something to me, that they have GROSSLY overspent. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people use one person as an example to explain why someone else can fail. Demba Ba was actually a pretty good striker for us, scored key goals despite not getting a lot of game time. I still wouldn't have minded having him at the club this year, just because he moved on doesn't mean he wasn't very good he probably wanted to be the no.1 guy again. Remy is a completely different striker who's pace and technique gives us something we don't have. City don't care about cheap, but they should! Because the rules require that they DO! THE RULES! Listen man if you really want Chelsea to follow the example set out by City I don't have much more to say to you, I don't want to see guys we've spent 25m on sitting on the bench for 5-10 games at a time. Its a ridiculous amount of money to pay for an insurance policy... "Oh wait guys JUST IN CASE Costa gets injured, we need to go buy another striker of equal value so we don't miss out on trophies!!" That doesn't sound silly to you? Its a fantastic buy because the club went out and got exactly what we need without breaking the bank to get it. The enthusiasm stems from the fact that the club have clearly identified the problems that existed last year and addressed them with incredible precision. We play a one striker system, in a perfect world Costa will play 45 odd games how much do you think would be a worthy investment/insurance policy for 15 games or so?
  13. What does Bony offer that we don't already have? 25m? for a guy who will start in a handful of games and doesn't offer a plan B? would Bony be comfortable not starting a lot of games? does his game require he play all the time to keep match fitness? All of these questions are the ones that I need answered when looking at a bench player.
  14. Its funny how people look to City as the answer when it comes to strikers and winning when we finished 4pts behind them with absolutely nothing up front. City isn't the blueprint when it comes to buying, they are exactly what you try to avoid ESPECIALLY during FFP which they have been sanctioned for violating! Why don't you try naming three available strikers who you would think would be adequate cover for Costa, I would love to hear what you think is a reasonable cover buy. As far as Remy goes he scored 14 times in this league last year without the weapons we can put around him to provide space. 14 goals in 26 games is an exceptional strike rate, and one that if replicated with Chelsea would be PRECISELY what we need in a secondary strike option. One paper you don't think he checks all the boxes? - Cheap ✔ - Excellent Prem scoring record ✔ - Prime years ✔ - Offers something different to what we have ✔ - Can play another position ✔ That's all I need, I don't know about you. When you can come up with 3 names that are suitable cover guys we can carry on with this...
  15. I like Raul but hard to find a place for him in this squad. We loaned out Van Ginkel....
  16. Just out of curiosity who were you hoping we'd sign as a back up? The reason why Remy is COVER is because he isn't a bonafide consistent performer, if he were we'd be paying treble what we did like Diego Costa... The money paid vs. the prem league record he has makes this signing incredible. Whether he fits in here is anyone's guess but no one can blame the board for taking a £10.5m punt on a 27yr old forward who scored 14 in 26 games as a cover guy. It makes too much sense.
  17. Ummm what? Why are you looking for competition? Costa is rightfully earning the shirt! 32m reasons why he should be given every chance to succeed! Remy was bought as cover, not as someone we would expect to displace our big signing! If he does, that's BONUS! The key to the season is and will always be Costa, if he goes down we're pretty much screwed no matter who we acquire and yes that includes Destro or Welbeck(WTF???) Why are you even mentioning Welbeck? Remy is light years ahead of him.
  18. I have no doubt in my mind that the signings we've made since January have made us the most complete side in the Prem and while its far too early to start thinking about the Champions League, I really think we have a side capable of winning both in a calendar season. Michael Emenalo and the rest of the board deserve a TON of credit, look at our squad from 2011-12 till now!!! Petr Cech Ross Turnbull Hilario Brana Ivanovic Ashley Cole David Luiz Gary Cahill John Terry Jose Bosingwa Paulo Ferreira Sam Hutchinson Ryan Bertrand Michael Essien Ramires Raul Meireles Frank Lampard John Obi Mikel Juan Mata Florent Malouda Josh McEachran Fernando Torres Didier Drogba Salomon Kalou Daniel Sturridge Romelu Lukaku 2014-15 Thibaut Courtois Petr Cech Mark Schwarzer Brana Ivanovic Gary Cahill John Terry Cesar Azpilicueta Filipe Luis Kurt Zouma Nathan Ake Andreas Christensen Oscar John Obi Mikel Ramires Cesc Fabregas Eden Hazard Andre Schürrle Willian Mohamed Salah Diego Costa Didier Drogba Löic Rémy Not only is that a hell of a lot of turnover but the difference in class is STAGGERING. To think we've acquired this team in just over two years for a sum total of around £245M(the amount paid for the new players on the roster) is nothing short of miraculous! Especially when you look at what Utd are paying for that shitty team. Emenalo and the Board have done yeoman-like work overhauling this team, and I know I for one feel indebted to them for providing me with a squad with which I LOVE every player and is young and exciting to watch. We are fortunate and to be honest with you whether we win or lose I'm not at all bothered. Some might say a squad like this should never lose, fair enough, but I'm not in the least bit bothered because I just love the team we've assembled; its about as close to a dream team as I'd like to come without going all Real Madrid in the window... Thank you, Chelsea Board of Directors and of course Roman! (though your influence is not as integral as it once was seeing as most of the revenue used to acquire these players was football related) You have done us all proud! Jose, its over to you now! CAREFREE.
  19. Great news! He'll be Prem league tested and we get to keep close tabs on him! He should get lots of game time too
  20. I am so proud of our staff. There isn't one player on the roster I don't love! This is TRULY MY CHELSEA
  21. dude... Its done, stop being so annoying.
  22. So what is the ideal strike force? Lukaku? Bony? Falcao? Cavani? You ask any premier league defender and they will tell you that this strike force is anything BUT underwhelming... Probably the top 2 in the Prem right now.
  23. Oh my word that was a cracker! So many talking points as well... First off we now know how dangerous a side we look when teams come out and we hit them on the counter. THAT was an unbelievable display of counter attacking football, it was quick, sharp and deadly. Credit to Jose and the staff for having these guys well up for it right from the jump! My pre-match predictions weren't bang on but one thing I did say was Jose and the boys will have their tails up for this one and they clearly did. Jose always uses games where we lost previously as a way to right it the next time. Last year we were also very good at Goodison but for the love of God couldn't find the back of the net! This game more than made up for that, we took the game to them early and often. I missed Oscar today, not offensively, but more in terms of cohesion and shape. We lose a bit of quality going forward when Cesc plays in the 10, I really think his BEST position is CM just ahead of Matic. Oscar's tactical awareness was missing today though I do think when we play counter attacking football better with Ramires in the side. Matic was incredible today! he basically assumed the role vacated by Cesc and was great not only winning the ball, but also making the telling pass to get us moving. He's gonna be/is an IMMENSE player for us. I thought Everton did a good job of forcing Willian and Hazard back to defend. I know its part of our philosophy but both those guys had important roles and for the most part did a good job not getting caught out. Diego Costa. He's gonna be hated by everyone not a Chelsea fan and I LOVE IT. A sample from a Gunner fan on facebook. "Honestly though, a player who puts his first and last name on the back of his shirt is a wanker. I'm looking at you Diego Costa. You are a wanker. And all your goals so far this season have been simple and lucky slot ins. You have scored in every game so far, but whatever, you son, are the definition of a wanker." He was at his best today! So clinical and also a real terror for the entire Everton team. Ivanovic will be our RB this year. No question about it... Luis and Azpi will be fighting it out. Ramires makes his mistakes when he's tired, usually about the 70min mark. He was running all game and made a few sloppy passes, I love him still so important to the balance of the team and he showed once again how dangerous he can be on the counter. We conceded a lot but we scored twice as many, get used to it guys and gyals. We are pushing more people forward and it will leave us open at the back, that wasn't the issue on any of the goals but we won't be as airtight as we were last year. Courtois really needs to work on his distribution, its been piss poor. Another wonder save on Mirallas though! Onwards and upwards this performance puts down a real marker, we're gonna be deadly this year and now teams are gonna have to take notice. If you come out at us we'll counter attack with deadly precision. If you sit deep we will carve you open with a killer ball from Fab... Good luck Premier League opponents!! CAREFREE
