Chelsea lacks a second striker. Remy simply is not good enough.

Should have stayed one more year. He would have been second choice but he's better than Remy and would have had more chances.

Can't believe he didn't play at the WC. Even as a striker which he is not he should have played in stead of that non-player Fred. And he is much better than Hulk of course. Player I like, should be able to do better this season. Good competition on the wings.

Does Chelsea really want to loan him another season to Atletico? Not sure what benefit they have in that. Unless they really want to sign Costa in which case it is leverage. Then they now have a second leverage by allowing Courtois to play or not. Interesting, interesting ... Agree however that these clauses should not be allowed by law. You loan a player = the player must not be disallowed to play against the team loaning him.

I was always in the camp I have always been firmly in the camp that he should play in defense but I agree with your post. With Terry performing this well, the current squad composition, and having seen his superb performance against Liverpool, I would also play him in midfield. Alongside Ramires with Hazard and Oscar in front of him. It will require a lot of positional discipline from all players but also a great combination of physical strength, players that can do a lot of kilometres and technical ability. I am quite suprised that Lampard is getting that many games of Mourinho. Would really favor Luiz there now that he's back.

It was a 'scuffed' shot indeed. But exactly what he needed to do in that position. Either it's on goal or it goes very dangerous across. Everton must work on his decision making. That moment in the 1st half where he left Smalling trembling on the ground he should was followed up by a rather weak pass cleared by Vidic whereas there were two Everton players in front of goal. Because of his power he can get in that position every game but must either storm on to the next defender and then pass or go for it himself.

How strange to put Lukaku in public on the spot like that. If you think he should talk less to the media ... give him a call and tell him so. If you are not happy with what he said in the media ... just say that in public, nothing else, and give him a call making that clear. Hitting out to your own 20 year old player on loan, hard to understand.

Not sure why I am posting this here (although ...) but it is still completely beyond me why Mata is not in the team.

On the hand I appreciate the reaction of Mourinho in not overreacting - although Hazard can probably expect to be benched as long as William and Schurrle are performing. But this "I am like a father for these young kids" is a bit ridiculous still. I mean, there are some young players in your squad, get over it.

He's not the player he can be. Too much trying not to make mistakes.

It's ridiculous. Mourinho has to give players confidence and make them better. Chelsea has bought certain players, loaned them and now is the time for some of them to get chances at the club. It's a very old fashioned view to hold the kind of line that Mourinho is holding atm. And what a difference with his self-professed 'father' image, him having changed and being there for other managers if they wanted advice.

Must simply play both.

Showed Mourinho was wrong to bench him. That red was possible today was always likely given how he was playing so Mourinho should have subbed him.

Lukaku was with the national team when the loan was agreed. It was really a last minute thing in which he had little say. Came as a surprise to him that Chelsea suddenly wanted to loan him again but as Demba Ba was staying that was the decision. He might have favoured going back to West Brom where he found somebody who really made him better in Steve Clark. Apparently Mourinho told him to go to Everton because of their possession based football. Maybe not a bad choice, especially as their squad looks strong enough and Martinez is also a coach with a vision. Long story short: Lukaku definitely didn't ask to go on loan.

Rather disappointing so far.

Can't see why De Bruyne doesn't come on for him earlier. Doesn't look sharp at the moment. Maybe it has something to do with Mata not playing in a central role anymore but it doesn't really matter. I would have expected Hazard to get the treatment Mata currently gets from Mourinho.

Crazy to say say these things about Mata in public. Not sure what Mourinho is heading for. Why not keep what was good last seasons and build on making use of the depth the squad now has? Maybe he'll need to look for DM, central forward but for the time being there is enough quality to play in different shapes. Imo it is ridiculous to claim Chelsea lost the last two games because he is thinking of the next four years.

Why would you want to sideline your best player of the last two years. Imho Mata should be the first player on the sheet and that can actually be in different positions.

Seems like a type of player that can easily perform as a central forward. Which begs the question if Eto'o was really a necessary addition to this squad.

They are different players but I can understand they both compete for the position on the right. Schurrle looks very good as well to be honest. Very composed, technically good, physical and direct. Would have like to see De Bruyne come on for him however. They should be kept in close competition and both get chances.

Strange he stays on 90 minutes after coming from injury.

Horrible substitutions. Keep things clear please. With Lampard en Oscar coming on we lost our momentum. De Bruyne could have come on for Schurrle with whom he seems in the balance. Willian, if ready, for Hazard. Or Lampard for Mikel/Ramires and Torres for Eto'o. I may be biased but I think Chelsea could have profited from the deliveries of De Bruyne in the last half hour. When they played crosses they were not good enough. Torres did nothing and it was a bit strange to have two centre forwards on that early. Oscar tried but lacked precision and Lampard didn't get in the positions he should get at that moment in the game.
