Chelsea fans slam Alvaro Morata on Twitter after poor run of form
Jase replied to James's topic in Chelsea Articles
Has the qualities to be a top quality striker but doesn't seem to have any determination or self-awareness to improve himself. On his way to becoming a 50m+ flop for us and dare I say it, at times, he's even making Torres look half decent for us! -
It's not often you can find someone like Kante playing for a lesser side and available on the cheap. The club these days would rather splash out 40-50m on piss poor players than on good ones.
-
That's true but that's probably because we have bought mostly duds, except maybe 1-2 players. Gonna find it tougher to try signing top quality players if we're not in the Champions League and even more so when we have become so stingy with money.
-
Maybe not money wise but certainly when buying/selling players.
-
True but the repercussions of missing out on Champions League are bigger this time.

Although it wasn't the only issue back then, Roman sacked Scolari back in 08/09 season when we looked in danger of missing out on top 4 and we only had Aston freaking Villa to worry about then. Have at least 3 other sides to contend with this time. Wonder if Roman will get twitchy and pull the trigger. In fact, is he even worried about this? Haven't seen any reliable reports of Conte getting the boot.

When you think about it, kinda funny how our Champions League final appearances have come under piss poor managers. As you mentioned, Uncle Avram was one penalty away from becoming a Champions League winning manager(!!!) while Di Matteo had all the luck in 2012. In fact, it's stupid how much Lady Luck has screwed us in the Champions League, even if she was on our side in 2012. Could easily have won it 2-3 times by now.

Big Phil is available too, by the way.

Look, no one is discrediting the players for winning 2 titles in 3 years but doing it over an entire season is different from doing it in the big games or the key period during matches.
-
Yes, I am aware of that. 2010/11 comes to mind, for instance. But on a whole, you would the trust the previous lot more to get stuck in and get a result when the going gets tough, no? This lot only seem to do it when it's against Spurs!
-
And we didn't even beat them once in FOUR games this season.

To be honest, I would question Drinkwater more than Christensen for the second goal. I know he had to defend the edge of the penalty area, but he just let Lingard go and pass the responsibility to Christensen when United were right in the middle of a dangerous attack.
-
That's the thing I don't get. Has no one - be it the coaching team or players - tell him about the need of being physically tougher and stand his ground during challenges? He's been here long enough and yet, he's still doing the same thing every game. Must be frustrating for the players to see him go down every time when we're trying to build attacks. A light breeze of wind is probably even enough to take him down!
-
Even my ageing grandmother can stand her ground better than Morata!

Think we can all sit down here and point the finger at Conte, the officials etc for all the shit stuff they did but what today's game has proven again is that this team just doesn't have players with strong character and mentality like we had in the past. Every time when the going gets tough, this team can easily get turned over. We've seen it so many times this season alone. Whenever our previous team - with Cech, Terry, Lampard, Drogba etc - were in trouble during matches, do you think the manager always came up with tactical solutions? No. The players were always ready to get stuck in and made sure we get some kind of result at the end. This lot? Meh. Imagine them going through our 2011/12 Champions League run. Would have ended up losing 10-1 in every single game!

Whatever you say, mate. Ta.

The point here isn't about whether Pedro was a defensive sub. It's whether Conte was right to sub Hazard to begin with.
-
Trying to underrate Hazard? Better than some folks who always get touchy when the manager does something that will seemingly upset Hazard or people say something negative about Eden 'Who Can Do No Wrong' Hazard.
-
I don't necessarily disagree with you on Conte's sub management because I thought it was shit, along with his in-game tactical management. But was he wrong to take Hazard off? I don't think so. Wasn't affecting the game in any way. Plus, what I don't get is people's constant need to criticize the manager - Conte or not - when they do something that will seemingly upset Hazard. It's as if we're Eden Hazard FC and not Chelsea FC.
