  1. Lampard could do what Ranieri did in the early 2000s. He built the foundation of the side before Mourinho came in and took the club to another level. Would be great if Lampard can lead us to trophies of course but if it's not him, I wonder who will be our Mourinho this time.
  2. But everything went downhill after that...
  3. So, this really came down to the years offered with the contract? In any case, hope he fails miserably there.
  4. Not gonna happen. The Chinese FA introduced salary cap last year to prevent clubs from spending fortunes on foreign players and to encourage clubs to invest on local players instead.
  5. The problem with Willian is his main strengths, as Jype pointed out above, are his pace and workrate. Are those physical attributes still gonna be there in 2-3 years? Unlikely. He might still be decent but unlikely able to play at the highest level anymore. Plus, it is not like he has the creativity, vision or technical ability a la David Silva, for example, to compensate for that.
  6. I know, I know but unless Arsenal have a crystal ball to look into the future and know he will still be good 2-3 years from now, giving the 3+1 deal is dumb. If Willian goes downhill from here, they are gonna have problems selling him because no other sane club in Europe will want to buy him and can afford his wages, unless Willian decides to take a pay cut. Based on what you said there, the additional year could then present a problem in the remaining length of the contract. It's almost as if Arsenal are not taking the signal that we aren't offering him more than 2 years.
  7. It's stupid how Guardiola has escaped criticism for his defensive flops. City have spent over 300 million on defenders since he took over and only Walker and Laporte have turned out decent.
  8. Yes but are they really that desperate to offer another year as option on top of what is already a silly long term deal for a 32-year-old?
  9. Inter v Leverkusen in the Europa League quarter finals next Monday. Inter not very good against Getafe tonight but getting away with it thanks to individual quality.
  10. Arsenal are basically offering Willian a 4-year-deal. JFC! How desperate are they!?
  11. Matt Law with the latest on Willian... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/08/05/arsenal-press-willian-negotiations-despite-staff-redundancies/
  12. Sanchez to complete his move to Inter Milan tomorrow... https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/08/05/alexis-sanchez-complete-permanent-move-manchester-united-inter/
  13. But where is the market for Jorginho? If Sarri gets sacked by Juventus, then I doubt they would want him but even if he doesn't get sacked, will Juventus want to spend big money on Jorginho in this current situation? Other than Juventus, I can't see any other Italian club wanting him or able to afford him. Moreover, Jorginho still has 3 years left on his contract, meaning it is likely that Marina will want to recoup around the same money we spent on him - 50-60 million. Again, who is willing to pay that right now? With Barkley, there is the English market and for better or for worse, English clubs are more likely to spend on English players and given how cheap we got Barkley, Marina will probably be happy if we can get like 20-30 million for him. Heck, if we're lucky, we might even be able to use him in exchange to sign Rice from West Ham.
  14. https://www.arsenal.com/news/club-update-2020 Arsenal just made 55 people redundant and they are gonna offer Willian a 3-year deal plus big wages!? Good luck to them...
  15. But is Jamal Lewis any good? Which striker are they targeting? Again, is he any good? Look past their first XI, their depth is really not that great - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–20_Liverpool_F.C._season#First-team_squad
  16. Maybe but then again, Man City did contrive to lose to Norwich, drop points against Crystal Palace and Newcastle. Their record against the Top 7 wasn't the best either.
  17. That they did but it was one game and Barcelona were/are horrible. Can they do it without them over a course of the season? The Klopp factor is big but that will only work for so long, like we saw with Dortmund.
  18. Klopp is gonna have to refresh that XI sooner or later. Salah and Mane turn 29 and Firmino turn 30 next year. Henderson is already 30, Milner is 34 and can't be viable backup for much longer. The likes of Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain are hit-and-miss, Minamino hasn't convinced, Origi only good as sub.
