Our game management in stoppage time was farcical. 3-2 up against a team with nothing to play for and we couldn't keep it tight. Was it so hard to waste time by keeping possession or getting the ball to the corner flag? Also, if Tuchel could bring Alonso on for Saul to patch up the LWB side, why couldn't he do the same with Sarr? Zenit were having joy against him and we still had another sub with Rudiger and Silva on the bench.

If we get Bayern, I fancy our chances against their high line and with the away goals rule out of the window, things could get wild in the KO stage (if playing on FM 22 is anything to go by lol).

I know midfield is not his position but James was horrendous defensively. Was almost just jogging back every time Zenit attacked. Finishing 2nd means there's a 50% chance we'll get Real Madrid/Bayern. That said, depending on how you want to view it, had we finished first, we could get PSG or Inter Milan, albeit from a bigger pool of possibilities. Now that we finish second, we might get Bayern or Real Madrid out of 4 possible teams.

Agree that Werner isn't a central striker but at the same time, he has at least shown that he can run the channels decently instead of being stationed in just one position. I don't know if it's by design or it just happened but after Lukaku came on, the front 3's position and movement became predictable compared to when Havertz was operating upfront in the first half. And not to mention, Werner did decently and scored the winner in this same fixture last season. But whatever I suppose. This did not age too well, @Superblue_1986...

It's one thing to do it in a game here and a game there but it's another to do it over 38 games. If we go deep in the cup competitions, then there will also be those to contend with on top of the Premier League. This team hasn't experienced this before. So we are still in the unknown when it comes to this. We have been burned too many times over the last decade on false dawns.

Even if they drop points, they have had a history of showing amazing consistency in recent seasons to stay up there and that's something still unknown with us because we hadn't challenged for the title since 2016/17. Can we really handle the pressure every week as the leaders? Can we handle it later in the season during March, April if we are still up there? So many questions, unknowns etc to be answered with this group.

Even if Werner costs say 40 million? Isn't the most they have paid for a player is somewhere around 30 million only? Hansi Flick wanted Werner but didn't get him because of Salihamidzic. Would Nagelsmann have better luck? And what if Lewandowski stays? Wouldn't Werner just basically be trading the same position for another? The irony of wanting to be the main man is that he could be one here if he's just able to score a tad more regularly.

But what if we end up with no takers for Werner? I mean, if we want to attract suitors, you would think he would have to do well between now and the end of the season, unless of course the club are willing to take a huge loss on him. And of course, if he does well between now and the end of the season, the conversation would probably not about him leaving etc. I have mentioned/asked this before and since I haven't gotten any convincing reply on this anywhere, I'll mention/ask again. Matt Law's speculation with Bayern is that it depends on whether Lewandowski stays but what if he stays? Then what? On the other hand, if he does leave, is there any guarantee that Bayern will come after him? Nagelsmann may like Werner but their sporting director doesn't and turned down the chance to sign him from RB Leipzig. Why would he do it now? With Dortmund, sure, they may have Werner on their list but are they willing to potentially pay a huge transfer fee and the wages? Maybe @Magic Lamps can shed some light on this but all the recent reports I've seen is that Dortmund are eyeing Karim Adeyemi and Werner supposedly isn't high on their list. If they get Adeyemi or another striker, again, then what?
