Who's talking about just the goals? He also provided lots of assists and his attacking impact was also a lot better than so many that we have bought over the last decade.

Exactly why I said what I said. lol Of course they can always negotiate but there was no reason for Leipzig to not stick with the clause at that time considering Werner was a wanted player - not just by Liverpool.

Am just bemused by yesterday's reaction. The saves he made are those you expect any decent keeper to make. None of them were particularly hard to save. He had made better/more difficult saves in the other games this season.

You sound so surprised. When you think about it, we are kinda like a graveyard for attackers. Over the last decade or so, how many attackers that we bought truly shone during their time at the club? You can probably count them all on one hand - Costa, Hazard and Mata.

You're probably not gonna change your mind but Liverpool did want Werner before Jota, according to the reliable sources out there. The only reason things changed for them is because of the pandemic. Liverpool have always been frugal with their spending under FSG, even more so after the pandemic happened. Werner had a release clause at Leipzig, so if someone wants to buy him, they have to pay the whole amount upfront, something that Liverpool were reluctant to do when the pandemic hit. With Jota, he didn't have a release clause at Wolves, meaning Liverpool can negotiate a payment structure with them with small amount of money paid every year etc instead of splashing 50 million in one go without having a clear picture of the financial situation back.

What do you mean "how Willian was dealt with"? JT's case was a long time ago. Since then, the club have broken their own policy twice by giving Luiz and Willian a two-year deal (the latter obviously rejected it because he wanted a longer one). I don't know if Azpi wants like three years or something but a two-year deal isn't exactly out of hand here. And not to mention, Azpi has done a lot more for the club - on and off the pitch - than Willian did.

It's good that Kepa is making saves that he wasn't before but we're seemingly entering the territory of overpraising him for doing the things that a keeper should be doing, especially when he's the most expensive one around.

Given the circumstances, take the win and run! Despite the depleted squad, this somehow ended up being our most calmest win in the cup this season. Maybe it helped that Brentford just came out of their own outbreak.

The point is having the time to build something first. Tuchel spent the second half of last season with just trying to get Top 4. This is practically is his first full season with us to build something sustainable for the future. It's not as if this team are already a winning machine and any manager coming in can just continue winning (like the squad with Cech, Terry, Lampard, Cole, Drogba etc). Guardiola took a season to fine tune City to his liking but otherwise, that squad already had title winners etc (e.g. Kompany, Aguero, Silva). You're asking a lot from a side who have not picked up more than 72 points in the last 4 seasons, who have struggled to finish in the Top 4 in those seasons to suddenly start hitting 90+ points and win the title. 3 of the last 4 league seasons were won by the side getting at least 98 points while the other one was 86 points. On top of that, people spent almost every week here complaining about this flaw and that flaw of our players and yet at the same time, are surprised when we can't match the consistency of Liverpool and Man City. I don't care if the alternative is Alonso and while Chilwell was in form before his injury, I just don't buy to the idea that our title challenge went south because of his injury, because of one player and one who is a LWB. One LWB injury can't be the excuse for the entire team to go on a meltdown and forgetting how to defend and finish chances. Plus, there's no guarantee that it wouldn't have gone south anyway even if he had not gotten the injury. We have had so many seasons over the last decade where we started well, looked like title challengers, only to fall away from November-December.

He praised all of them but all are different type of strikers. Maybe Tuchel did want Lukaku but based on what's going on on the pitch, it doesn't look to be the case because the latter looks ill suited to the team. Won't be surprised if Tuchel just went along with the club on signing Lukaku. They were trying to push for Haaland back in January before Tuchel even came in.

Things can still change obviously but not sure why people are surprised by our faltering form in the title race. It was also gonna be a big ask to suddenly go from Top 4 scrapers to title challengers and matching the consistency of Manchester City and Liverpool in the space of one season. Yes, injuries and COVID have caused issues recently but easy to forget that this group haven't had a title challenge together as a group compared to the other two teams. City and Liverpool took a while to get going when Guardiola and Klopp first went there and even we had needed at least one season to "prepare" before winning the league in the past (2003/04 and 2013/14). A sustained title challenge of some sort or just a comfortable 3rd place finish without scraping for a Top 4 place again would already be an improvement on previous seasons.

This is getting overplayed now. Yes, his overall career record suggest he is injury prone but do people realize that Pulisic has had only ONE notable injury in the whole of 2021 (and it wasn't even his fault!)? So he has been pretty much available for at least 3/4 of the year and his biggest issue now is the performances when starting games.
