I don't think Mata will be rested for a big game like this. If he was going to get rested it would have been against Reading. He'll play the Super Cup as well me thinks, then will go on his break.

You almost have to think of Newcastle as a top 4 quality side. They are actually a very good balanced team with good players. We have more quality and should win, especially at home but we need to be up for it and start the game really well.

Alright, our first big test. Let's see what we're made of. I am slightly less confident about this one. I think Ramires or Bertrand may play on the wing to provide defensive stability. Yeah I actually may prefer Modric. Although I'd prefer a true DM above even him. The goals will come. Even with Torres 'struggling' (Yet he scored a goal...) we have been managing just fine in the goals department. Torres may become a Gomez type in which he doesn't play brilliantly but is in the right place at the right time to stick the ball into the back of the net. Improving our double pivots will lead to the most improvement in our team, me thinks.

Oscar is obviously never going to be a midfield destroyer. He is the deep lying playmaker type with freedom. Ramires can be the destroyer I feel.

No chance and not what we need. We need a experienced, proven goal scorer.

Cavani could be perfectly suited for our system. We've got speed and a slickness to our play now. Cavani seems likes he is a better, slightly more stronger version of Torres.

I think for the quicker type of football we're trying to play both are not up to it to be honest. Mikel isn't a strong bulldog/destroyer type which I think you need in a 4-2-3-1. He is too slow (passing wise) and passive. Good to use when we need to slow down the game or need to shut up shop. On the other hand Lampard is not good enough at linking the play. He loses the ball far too much making what should be routine and simple passes. As mentioned before he also bombs forward too much. He needs to realise when to go and when to stay. I think Oscar in time can perfect this role as he seems to gracefully drift across the field. From his time in the Brazil squad and what I've heard about his days at Internacional he makes good runs into the box as well without overdoing it as Frank is doing. The biggest challenge will of course be the physical side but I think Ramires/Essien and Oscar/Romeu would truly be better choices.

To be honest, yes it would make us contenders but to be good enough to win it we need a new DM setup. Either start using two of Romeu/Essien/Oscar/Ramires instead of Lampard and Mikel or buy one in January. It'll help improve our defence and attack because of the better protection/shielding the back 4 would get and better ability to keep the ball/transition into attack.
