There was nothing wrong with their approach. It was the shocking defending and individual defensive mistakes that cost them this game. Clichy was directly responsible for the first two goals they conceded for example and Magala was beyond shocking. When your defenders are defending like amateurs. that's not the fault of tactics. They could have parked the bus and still lose badly with the way they their defenders defended. The only thing laughable here is how some still feel it's acceptable the way we play like a vastly inferior side scared to hold on to dare lives in virtually every big game. We are not inferior to utd and shouldn't play like we are.

How many games is that now that he's been our MOTM and the major reason why we won or didn't lose a game. He's the difference between us and Arsenal at the moment because without his and Cech's amazing saves this season, we are easily fighting for top 4 instead of running away with the league. It just shows how average we have been defensively and overall as a team for huge portions of the season.

He set the team up negatively even when Utd were shit (away last season) and when they were average and out of form (away this season) now imagine how negatively he would play against an in form and full of confidence utd team. I just hope we are lucky and Thibo saves our asses again because no matter how many buses we park, with the way we have defended this season, Utd will still create chances to score.

You say that like we have been any better, performance wise, since the turn of the new year. Jason's concern is definitely legitimate and it would require another flawless performance from Thibo to get something out of this game since we have been rubbish at our trademark tactics in big games this season i,e parking the bus properly.

Let's see..Both bought in as regular starters with huge reputation, one a ballon dor runner up and the other, Brazils number 10 and chief playmaker who was regarded as one of the best young players in europe and projected to become a surefire world class player ( a reputation that wasn't earned btw) . Both started incredible amount of matches in their first 3 seasons despite failing to show any form of consistency and generally proven to be unreliable and not good enough. .The main similarity however is the overwhelming amount of patience, leniency afforded to both players Mixed in with strong denial from some posters amidst all the countless poor performances and false dawns. The inconsistency and unreliability of both created a divide amongst supporters with one section showing strong disapproval and the other section using all sorts of excuses to defend them. Excuses ranging from lack of pre season with us, unsuitability to the system at the time, the lack of creativity, some blamed it on players like malouda, kalou et al, even drogba wasnt spared as apparently his presence was hindering the £50m signing from flourishing and so on. in oscar's case if it's wasn't adaptation to a new league, it's his age and if it wasn't that, it's fatigue induced by playing so many games for club and country. Some have blamed the system and now jose appear s to be the latest explanation for his gross inconsistency over the last 3 seasons But the similarity doesnt stop there, despite both players proving to be not good enough, we have failed to beef up or strenghten their respective position and therefore they face(d) no competition/threat for their places in the team.
