It wasn't his lack of tracking back, for the first goal in particular he was level with the right back and just fell asleep and didn't notice him ghost behind him. Fitness has nothing to do with that. He seems to have been running up and down the pitch fine all game to me.

Don't think we played too badly to be honest... just got done by that late first half goal and a penalty given away by a striker.

Substitution ruined us really; while Athletico started well in the second half - we made it easier by bringing on Eto and changing the shape. Ah well, always next year!

Always takes a season to really bed in and complete the squad as the manager wants. Rodgers has had two seasons to drill his players how he wants and it's paying off; Pellegrini and Mourinho probably have the two best squads in the league and as such they are doing what it expected of them this year. Next year will be interesting, but I bet my bottom dollar Liverpool won't win it.

His anticipation and reading of the game makes him a great defensive midfielder, it allows him to see when to step in and intercept and as he is so much further forward, he has the ability to play the ball quickly to our front four and in-turn counter attack with pace. Both him and Matic do this really well, which is why we countered City and Arsenal so well when they played together.

Heard opposing fans say he is one of, if not the best, defensive midfielders in the world.

What result do we want out of the Liverpool vs City match assuming they both keep winning up till that point? Liverpool win?

This is why Schurrle (and Salah when acclimatized) actually balances the team out quite nicely. Hazard, Oscar and Willian are too similar; we need someone who makes runs in behind and -- as you say -- can stretch the play. I think we should only ever play two of Oscar, Willian and Hazard going forward. Probably means Willian / Oscar rotating a bit more.
