  9. Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has played down speculation linking him with a January transfer window switch to Chelsea. The 21-year-old is reportedly wanted by Carlo Ancelotti and the Blues were said to be eyeing up a move for the Argentina international. But Aguero - who came off the bench to bag a brace against Chelsea in a UEFA Champions League Group D clash earlier this season - has rubbished reports of a move and reaffirmed his commitment to the Spanish club. He told Atletico's official website: "I have always made my commitment to Atletico clear and the whole world knows it.
  10. ’ Chelsea say the matter is a ‘non-issue’ because they have written permission from Ghana’s FA to use Essien. There are doubts, however, about the value of that letter: Muntari’s club, Inter, also received a communication from Ghana’s FA, but were told by the Italian federation that it made no difference and Muntari was left out of the Inter squad to face Bologna. Fred Pappoe, the Ghana association’s vice-president, told The Sunday Times he was unaware any permission had been granted.
  11. From the Mirror 30-11-09 Joe Cole has baulked at opening new contract talks with Chelsea. The Mirror says Chelsea and England star Cole, 28, is out of contract at Stamford Bridge next summer when his current £80,000-a-week terms expire. And new Blues chief executive Ron Gourlay has made keeping Cole one of his top priorities. But Cole's representatives have no plans to open formal negotiationsuntil the midfielder starts producing imperious displays again. He is desperate to prove his worth to new manager Carlo Ancelotti. Cole then hopes to join John Terry, Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole by penning a four-year deal worth over six-figures a week.

  13. .John Terry is set to rewrite the Chelsea record books, as he will become the second longest serving captain of the club in terms of appearances if he plays against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Terry is now level with Dennis Wise on 298 games with the Blues' armband, and the latter says he will be only too happy to see the28-year-old getpast him. "It's fantastic. People are always at some stage going to break your records and achieve something and if there's one personI'd like to see do it, it would be John," Wise told the club's officialwebsite. "He has come all the way through and done fantastically well, I'm chuffed to bits for him. He is a true Blue and a boy who always wanted to achieve a lot as a young kid. "All those times he spent out there on his own, training and doing what he could to make himself better, have paid off, so well done to him." The all-time Chelsea record is currently held by another defender, Ron 'Chopper' Harris, who made 324 appearances as captain.
