  4. look what happened Monday in Sweden Swedish royal monument destroyed in thunderstorm https://www.thelocal.se/20250624/today-in-sweden-a-roundup-of-the-latest-news-on-tuesday-203/ A thunderstorm swept across Sweden on Monday evening, causing a 200-year-old royal monument to collapse. Photo: Johan Nilsson/TT A royal monument to commemorate the death of Swedish Crown Prince Karl Augustus in 1810 was completely destroyed after getting hit by lightning in a thunderstorm at Kvidinge in southern Sweden late on Monday. "All of a sudden there was a flash and a bang at the same time without warning," neighbour Henrik Kollén told regional newspaper Helsingborgs Dagblad. The over seven metre tall pillar collapsed and on Tuesday morning only the base of the monument was left standing. Designed by Stockholm city architect Carl Christoffer Gjörwell, it was erected in 1826 and built out of Swedish green marble from the quarries at Kolmården. "It's very sad when historical monuments are this badly damaged by the forces of nature," Marcus Årskog, spokesperson for the National Property Board of Sweden, which maintains the monument, told Helsingborgs Dagblad. He signed a five-and-a-half-year contract at Stamford Bridge, but would stay at Genk for the remainder of the 2011–12 season.
