Chelsea star who hasn't missed a game at risk of ban for Tottenham & Brentford because of Premier League rule https://www.londonworld.com/sport/football/Chelsea/Chelsea-caicedo-suspension-yellow-cards-spurs-brentford-5035099 Chelsea will look to keep their bid for a Champions League place on track as they travel to take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Ahead of the weekend, the Blues are inside the top four, two points behind Nottingham Forest in third. The Stamford Bridge outfit are two points above Manchester City and Newcastle United while Brighton are just three points behind in seventh spot. Victory over Arsenal would give their top four hopes a significant boost and further decimate Arsenal’s chances of winning the title. Maresca admits his long-term goal is to better compete with Arsenal moving forward. He said: “The gap right now is quite big, and the reason why is because they are working with the same manager for five years, so the difference is quite important. “With the same players, they have already played in some important games, but our target and duty is to close that gap between us and them. In this moment, the table shows the difference is six points, so we are quite close and have ten games to go. We’re not focused on whether they can be three, six or nine [points ahead]. We are focused on our game and how we try to beat them. Hopefully, we can beat them and we will be closer.’” Premier League suspension rules Ahead of their clash with Arsenal, the Blues have one player who is facing a two-game ban after picking up an astonishing five yellow cards in his last seven games. Premier League rules state that any players who collect 10 yellow cards in their club’s first 32 games will be handed a two-match suspension. Will Hughes of Crystal Palace and Fulham’s Sasa Lukic are the first two players to hit the 10-caution mark this season but a clutch of players have been booked nine times so far. One of those is Moises Caicedo, who has really racked the bookings up in recent games. The £115m signing from Brighton has been booked against Wolves, Man City, Brighton, Aston Villa and Southampton. In his last seven games the only matches he wasn’t booked in was against West Ham and the most recent win over Leicester City. If the Ecuadorian picks up a caution against Arsenal, he will be banned for games against Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford after the international break. Caicedo has played every Premier League game for Chelsea Caicedo has started all 28 of Chelsea’s Premier League games so far this season, and has been named captain on a handful of occasions by Maresca. The Chelsea boss is clearly a fan of the midfielder, as evidenced by his comments on him last month. Maresca said in early February: “Since we started he has been doing fantastic in all aspects. He’s improving a lot, he’s understanding the game, he’s going in different positions and he’s open-minded. He’s a good guy, he’s humble, he works hard, so for a coach he is the perfect player. “He’s playing a lot of minutes, but I think if you compare to other players at Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City, there are many players that play more than Moi is playing for us. Moi is playing more or less one game a week and at 23 if you cannot play one game a week that means there is something wrong.”

England: Thomas Tuchel admits doubts over Reece James fitness as he disagrees with Enzo Maresca position shift https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/thomas-tuchel-reece-james-england-Chelsea-fc-b1216792.html England head coach Thomas Tuchel says he sees Reece James as a full-back rather than a midfielder but has admitted the Chelsea captain still has to prove if he is fit enough to play the position at the highest intensity. James was an integral part of Tuchel's Champions League-winning Blues team and was named in the German's first England squad on Friday, having not previous been called-up since March 2023. James' career has been blighted by injuries, particularly to his hamstring, since Tuchel left Stamford Bridge but he has impressed in a new midfield role for Enzo Maresca's side this year. Tuchel disagrees with his latest Blues successor that James' best position is in the middle of the park but says the 25-year-old still has to prove he is capable of dominating a flank from full-back, as he once did. Tuchel said: "I know Reece. In calling him up now, we made sure before we called him up that he was constantly available in training, that he was constantly available to be picked for matches - so that when he’s not picked for matches, it’s not because of injury, it’s just a choice of the club to maybe protect him a little bit. This was the basis for the nomination. "I still feel he is a player for the full-back and wing-back positions, I think we have enough players in central midfield who are more specialists there… Asked if James could still get up and down the flank, Tuchel added: "We need to see if he can do this. He needs to prove the point, to be honest, he needs to prove that he can do it. "I’m aware he was exposed to less high-intensity work because he played a different role, he started playing in a back three, so with the ball they were building a back three with him which he did also for me at Chelsea. "In Copenhagen he played in midfield so you are not exposed to high-intensity runs but the history and the numbers recently tell is it is possible so it’s on him to prove the point." Meanwhile, Tuchel revealed he had spoken to his predecessor Gareth Southgate but did not ask his views on squad selection. The pair met at Manchester City's home Champions League game against Real Madrid last month but Tuchel declined the opportunity to pick Southgate's brain because he wants every player to have a clean slate. "It is always a nice, friendly and very trustful exchange [between me and Gareth] but not in terms of his views and how he felt about the Euros and his selection of the team," he said. "It is not because I don't trust his opinion - the opposite - I just did not want to be influenced too much. I never did this in my career because I want to give everyone the chance to start afresh. “Everyone is to have the chance to impress me for the first time and don’t want to be influenced by other opinions."

Jordan Henderson is a rinsed hack. He has been shambolic in every Ajax game I have seen him in. Tuchel is on crack.

Chelsea, Sporting CP agree future transfer of Geovany Quenda https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/Chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2025/3/14/24385489/Chelsea-sporting-cp-agree-future-transfer-of-geovany-quenda-report Breaking news in the middle of the night! Chelsea have apparently stolen a march on a whole bunch of other teams, and have agreed a deal to sign young winger Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s “secret blitz” to gazump the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain has been successful, and we’ve struck a deal with Sporting after Quenda “said yes” to the Chelsea project — and not-yes to his former manager Ruben Amorim’s project at United. (Maybe he saw the circus tent renderings?) Quenda will turn 18 in April, but intriguingly, Romano’s report says that he will join Chelsea only in 2026, by which time he will be 19. It’s unclear if the plan is to loan him back for a season (and thus use up an international loan slot), or if this is truly just a future transfer for 16 months from now. Previous rumors guessed that Quenda would command a transfer fee of around €40m. He had signed a new contract through 2027 with Sporting back in September, complete with a €100m release clause. Quenda has been a regular for Sporting in what’s just his first season as a senior professional, making 40 appearances already in all competitions (third on the team in minutes), scoring two goals and adding seven assists for the Portuguese league-leaders. He’s comfortable on either wing, though has been playing left more often of late after playing on the right for the first part of the season. he plays wingback a lot
