The idea of falling back after the sending off and before the 1-1 was in itself disastrous.

In amateur league, Iceland, San Marino.

BS. You don't do that even if instead of making a vicious tackle he really wanted to kick you. Matic is a fool.
-
He was today. Plus the referee, Jack the ripper.
-
Just horrible. Matic is an idiot. Costa made a Torres of himself.

The hools made their appeareance here some time in 1972. Before that there were isolated incidents, mostly in the directors boxes ! In one derby match I saw a known cinema actor coming to blows with a Panathinaikos supporter. While we still have something going on in directors boxes, the organized armies were somehow created. I left Greece at around that time, to return ten years later, so I missed the beginnings. In England it was an already established state of affairs and my bro in law was showing me vintage smagazines from the sixties describing the antics of kop fans. I thought of it as a strange thing. It's not so easy to mobilize people for a political cause -of whatever type- while it appears to be a lot easier to organize football violence. The closest I ever came was when one day I went to the Gate 7 of the Olympiakos Piraeus stadium - not being an Olympiakos fan of course. Gate 7 is the *ssh*le of the universe. On that day there was a huge crowd and the police nearly shoved me in there. These folks are crazy. When one of their playes visibly fouls an opponent, they immediately shout against the referee (that does n't happen in any other stadium). However in that match my Greek team made a shambles of a performence, they did not even cross the centre circle, Olympiakos won 2-0 and even missed a pen. So I never got to know what might have happened.

One thing that happened to me is this: 1975, Wembley, England under Don Revie face Czechoslovakia and are 3-0 up (it was the Euro group won by Italy eventually). A Czech fires a shot from 30 yards and hits the cross-bar, Shilton did n't move. So I say "what a good shot". When I said this there were three wildish looking gents nearby who did n't like it at all. Hey that one is a Czech said one of them, we grab him next time ! A Czech traveling supporter in 1975 as well ! The Greeks of Salonica operate like secret police. They stop you in the street and ask you to give directions to some of the town's landmarks. Like say the meteo authority buiding. If you fail, it proves you are not from Salonika and they beat you up.

There is a bit of it in science too. The Germans measured electrical current intensity in Webers, because Ampere was French (the Weber normally measures magnetic flux). The Soviets were calling the well known Ward-Leonard dynamo-motor combination, Dolivoff-Dobrovolski arrangment, because Ward and Leonard were Americans. In the ancient world the Romans had slaves. But Alexander the great before them, although a warrior and a conqueror, had stated that his intention was not to subjugate peoples but to create an empire of equals (Greeks-Persians-Egyptians). It is unfortunate that modern Europeans took Rome as an example and not Alexander.

I liked Burnley against City. Came back from 2-0 down. In the last 3-4 minutes they were fools not to press for the 2-3 - they were gaining corner kicks and playing them short ! Granted their table position is abysmal.

Actually there may be some youths who think it's fun. It's not impossible. Maybe some grown ups too. It's been 4 years now I was frequenting a pub. The customers were Greek but there was also an Iraqi and an Albanian. Some horrible words of racist content were spoken among them, but they thought nothing of it. They thought it was fun and then reverted to normal conversation ! But those folks were simple minded and uneducated. Except for me, the only one with a modicum of education did not participate. In that crowd there was one real extremist, I was told later.

There exist many similar types. We laugh at them but unhappily it gets serious sometimes, and we have international tensions just because of some bundles of drunkards. In the 80s the Salonika "fans" of Aris basket ball team bought a Hitler Uniform, the same as you see in madame Tusseaud's in London. The idiot who was wearing it was always standing in the front row in the Alexandreion and the cameras could not miss him. Evnetually they stopped doing it, but in those days I found somewhere a neo-nazi political magazine, the Golden Dawn, and in it they had a feature article, saying how "noble", "pure" and "patriotic" those fools with the uniform were ! My dad saw it and tore it to shreds and he also spoke angrily to a friend of mine because he thought we actually liked this thing. I found another issue and sold it for 50 euros at ebay, but the one I 'm talking about was a gem and could fetch 200. The one I sold was relatively innocent and talked only about how great the German U-boats were in the North sea.

I know there are some, but it was a political happening organized by others. Same with Greece v. Romania, the play off for Brazil last year. We got punished and played against Northern Ireland in empty stadium in October. Against Romania the neonazis sent some of their supporters to make extended arm salutes. Back in 1986, in Mexico, the England players against Paraguay-Argentina when chasing balls for a throw in, they were smacked in the face by those nazi flags (horrible sight and those players expressed their disgust afterwards). The only club from where they were chased away and they never dare show up is AEK of Athens because it's a club of refugees from old Constantinople.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/feb/18/racist-chelsea-fans-push-black-man-paris-metro That was quite clearly a piece of right wing activism, organised by some political group. The same 10 men could dress as Liverpool fans, Spurs fans, anything and do it again. The use of a brand name such as Chelsea FC and the coincidence of the action with the football match makes it possible for them to gain publicity. It has nothing to do with the club but if identified could be sued.

Don't complain. Last year against Atletico, in the 0-0, we managed one shot with Luiz's free kick (the Luiz of PSG now). Against PSG again it was a crazy match and we lost 3-1. You can't complain. We do however have apart from PSG, four strong opponents lined up a against us, Real, Bayern, Barca, Atletico. I don't expect us to avoid less than two of them so bodies will start falling !
-
I 'm not happy with the performence but last year we lost 3-1 there and then in Madrid we drew 0-0 but we were outplayed by Atletico, which was n't the case today with PSG. They had two good chances to make it 2-1. Diego did not finish one single job but he did keep them occupied. In general we did nothing up front. The goal and Hazard's low cross blocked by Sirigu early on. Well PSG is on a par with City I believe so you can't call this result bad, but we have to finish them off at the bridge.

In what circumstances would you choose to miss a Chelsea game?
cosmicway replied to LAB's topic in Matthew Harding Stand
It has to be something quite out of the ordinary. If it was a date like say with Sophia Loren, I 'd say to her "please my dear, let's make it tomorrow". This does n't involve Chelsea, but in the year 1966 my class teacher went to the head and said "sir I have a memorial service to attend and I have to dismiss the class" (memorial service at 7.00 pm hours as well !). So we all went to AEK v. CSSKA Moscow, basket ball European semi, with flares as was the fashion of the era. That one was some head. Nicknamed the Dilliger, later made into a film character sadistic head. -
Must be Argentina.

I like the restaurants. You depart at 11 pm and they say to you "bon soire".
