  1. The sh*t of it is to watch football from some formerly glorious countries. In the Argentine empty terraces, they have some Greek league players of ten years ago, Scocco-Beluchi (!)-Blanco. Their teams cannot string two passes together. Nacho Scocco who also played for Sunderland for a while, was just a notch below the level of their national team, but that was ten years ago.
  2. I can recall 6 big English names who played for European clubs over the yeras: Charles-Greaves-Keegan-Rash-Owen-Beckham. Count also the Welshman Gareth Bale. Any more ? How many Germans played for other countries ?
  3. With the captain they were two, now only one. But the only English player I readily approve of now is Leicester's Vardy - from among those discussed for a transfer. Maybe some others will prove useful -if a transfer is concluded- but I don't know, so I cannot agree with you. Those who want English players just because they are English will make CFC a side of losers. If all the premier teams do the same but the whole of Europe does n't follow, then no English team will progress in European competitions beyond August. If all of Europe goes back in time and players of foreign nationality are not allowed it's very bad for the players freedom of movement but it will make football more interesting. Back in the fifties I think it was only the Italians and the Spaniards who allowed foreign players and the Portuguese considered Brazilians as automatically qualifying for Portuguese citizenship (Brazil belonged to Portugal in the old days). There were many cheats too being done. Also in 1956 the Hungarians Pushkas and Kubala became Spanish out of honour, after they defected from the Hungarian communist regime.
  4. Leicester fight hard, but the Ranieri era is gone. Unless we are terribly unlucky we should bag this.
  5. Everton sometimes perform well against us at the bridge but not today - very poor. The commentators were on about Everton's exertions during the week but I think they were patting them in the back a little because that match against Maribor in Croatia was no more then a training exercise. However we 're in for similar journeys in the weeks to come, to Italy, Spain, Kazakhstan. You think wre we going to play like Everton did today after every such midweek journey ?
  6. The unmentionable one will win this league unless something happens pretty soon. With Hazard back we will be stronger but we need upgrades. Someone wrote we would have no chance against PSG - let alone RM etc. That's not fair for Chelsea football club.
  7. Well PSG could n't possibly up until now and Juve was considered a spent force CL-wise. Whether Atletico retain the sparkle we shall see (but they will be reinforced with Diego later on ... ). Granted it's a tough assignment to recreate 2012, but the teams who make the right moves in the transfer market can always make it.
  8. City is tipped by the bookies to win the title (2.35). Mou follows (3.25), then us (7.50).
  9. The early chance missed by Morata was for U18 players.
  10. Bakayoko will prove huge asset for Chelsea. Morata looks like a Pato affair.
  11. They got tired after 60 minutes so we resurfaced, then they scored with the own goal. Overall poor performance - but somewhat excusable. Morata very disappointing so far.
  12. 10 against 11 is no easy task to perform. Also it always happens that small time entities like Burnley are at their best in the early bit of the season. It does however leave a huge question mark as to what happens next, given that our next opponent is Spurs, nominally the second best team in England.
  13. That was never a red card. Cahill stretches his leg so as not to hurt the opponent and he puts him off balance - unavoidable the way the two men were entangled.
  14. I think our principal weakness yesterday was we gave them too much possession after the 1-0. Although we came close to the 2-0 with Morata, Courtois had to make one save after the other. Are Arsenal so good they can outplay us for 30 minutes ? The penalty shootout is a random affair. The FA changed the method too, following some statistics. I wonder. I 'd like to know this statistic: What are the chances of a team who equalize late in the game and what are the chances of the other team who are disappointed ? Holland v. Italy 2000 comes to mind. Holland after missing two pens in normal time no way could win the shootout - they were psychological wrecks. Bayern v. Cfc also the cl final. That was close but it was Chelsea who got the later equalizer (Didier).
