We've been told that Champions League qualification triggers a clause in our players' contracts which increases their earnings. It's great no matter what because those costs were baked in already and must be paid. If the money for runners up covers that, and I doubt it would unless we actually win it, that still means we don't have take the money away from some other part of our budget. The cash helps. I don't believe £80m would cover the costs above because it's a fair guess that the squad, coaches, and even the sporting directors, are on bonuses for this competition.
