Chelsea want former Real Madrid star Mijatovic to be new director of football

Chelsea have asked Yugoslavian legend Predrag Mijatovic to take over the role of director of football at the end of the season.

Frank Arnesen announced in November he would step down from the position in May and has taken a job with Bundesliga side Hamburg, which starts in the summer.

Mijatovic was director of football at Real Madrid from 2006-2009 and was instrumental in bringing stars such as Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael Van Der Vaart to the Bernabeu.

Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Chelsea have contacted Mijatovic, who enjoyed a glorious playing career with Valencia, Fiorentina and Real Madrid, about replacing Arnesen and have given him two weeks to make a decision.
