Nigeria manager : Chelsea has 'destroyed' Mikel

The new national team coach of Nigeria has certainly wasted little time in causing waves, blasting Chelsea for destroying John Obi Mikel's game.

Samson Siasia complained that, since moving to the English top flight, Mikel's natural attacking instincts have been stamped out of his game entirely.'The system in Chelsea actually destroyed Mikel's game,' said Siasia. 'Mikel is an offensive player, but when he moved to Chelsea, they changed him because they had a better player offensive wise like Frank Lampard who can score goals.'

He went on: 'I don't think he is playing in his natural position because we all saw what Mikel played in 2005 and everybody loved him for what he did, he can keep the ball and create chances for the strikers to score goals.'

'That was why Chelsea actually gave him a contract, but getting there they had two top players, Lampard and Michael Ballack. Lampard scores goals and so what (Jose) Mourinho did was to bring Mikel back because how many goals has Mikel scored? He brought him back so that Lampard and Ballack played offensive.'

And Siasia's advice for the 23-year-old was clear: quit Chelsea now.'He has to start playing more offensive to become the Mikel we knew,' he added. 'But if it would be difficult to change the way he is playing, he has to move to another club.

I remember the old Nigerian manager said something similar. To be honest I can see why they're upset, they've lost a big source of attack. But we've made him a better player, if Nigeria can't use him in such a way then clearly they're not doing their job very well.

Mikel was Nigeria's finest talent when he came to us. He was one of the most promising attacking midfielders which is why we fought United to get him as they wanted him to replace Scholes. He was the 2nd most impressive player at the Fifa Youth World Championship being second only to Messi. Him being little more than a passenger until just a year ago doesn't give us or him any credit. Maybe it was Jose who ruined him but he didn't show enough signs of fulfilling his huge potential until his fourth season with us, in the meantime we've all seen what has Barcelona turned Messi into. Mikel may turn into the next Maka/Pirlo but at the moment it looks like we wasted a huge talent.

Gimme a break. Think Jose, Grant, Scolari, Hiddink and Carlo know more than you about Mikel and are the best judges of where to play him.

Because we have never ruined a player by playing him out of position right?

Fuck off back to your shithole

Nice try but in the words of Ian Holloway, YOU'RE WRONG!

You, like many others, are judging Mikel on games/footage that you have personally never seen before. Mikel was a powerful runner and has always had a knack for passing. He was able to play in an attacking midfield position at that Youth World Cup because he could simply brush pass much smaller opponents and he was also much quicker than he is today.

The bit in bold is a complete fallacy. If you couldn't see how good Mikel was and how good he was capable of becoming until just recently fine, but don't all assume we all think like you.

:goodpost:

this time I can agree with you completely ,,,it took time to learn maka role ,,but now he is developing the mikel role ..in this season he is

adding an attacking quality ..soon he will be the complete world class midfielder with a versatility few could match ....dont think we've exactly

destroyed him
