Hope all the Aussies on here have signed.

An online petition is calling on the Australian government to rename their currency based on a joke from a 1995 episode of 'The Simpsons'.

More than 15,000 people have signed the Change.org petition which calls for the Australian Dollar to be renamed the "Dollarydoo".

In the classic episode of 'The Simpsons' titled 'Bart Vs Australia', the young ne'er-do-well ends up forcing an Australian family to rack up a 900 Dollarydoo phone bill as part of an elaborate prank call.

"Due to global commodity prices plummeting, the Australian economy is struggling," reads the petition by Thomas Probst, addressed to former Shadow Minister for Communications & Broadband and current Australian prime minister Malcolm Turnbull.

"That’s why we need something to stimulate the Australian economy and that something is changing the name of the Australian currency to ‘Dollarydoos'."

Probst claims the name-change would "make millions of people around the world want to get their hands on some Australian currency due to the real life Simpsons reference, driving up the value of the Australian currency."

Dollarydoos? That's a funny name. We would've called 'em tizzwozzers

I'd rather not have our culture based on a bloody joke in an American cartoon.

I love that humour and appreciate the jokes in that episode but fucks sake; that is embarrassing.

Hi Spike.

Do you have any memories when you lived in Australia before you left for USA.

Have you had close encounters with venomous spiders or snakes when you lived in Australia and how bad is the Mosquitoes in spring and summer.

have you seen any shark and or witnessed any shark attacks when you have been to Australian beaches in summer.

I wouldn't be able to live in Australia with the summer heat and bush fires / venomous snakes / venomous spiders and the sharks attacks that happen a lot more frequently in Australian Seas.

here in my part of Auckland, New Zealand in East Auckland in Howick, for the past few years the mosquitoes are getting worst.

I think the fact only 15000 signed it showed the majority of Aussies have much more sense

Of course I have memories.

No, I've been close to spiders and snakes but I've never been endangered by one. Most venomous snakes and spiders are very easily avoided especially if you live along the densely populated east coast. The more rural your location the more likely you are to encounter a venomous snake or spider. However, most species are not aggressive towards humans and will only attack if provoked. The most dangerous spider in Australia is the Sydney Funnelweb. It is notorious for being highly aggressive and territorial but in saying that there hasn't been a fatality for over thirty years and no reported bites in over a decade. In twenty years of living in Australia, I've probably seen a venomous snake or spider less than ten times.

Mosquitoes are very locational. If you live near a river or anywhere that likely to become humid, mosquitoes will be the bane of your existence. You will have to constantly wear bug spray. In drier areas you will be bothered more by the common black fly, millions of them. So annoying. In my hometown January and February are the worst months for dealing with mosquitoes outside of those months they aren't bothersome. Sand flies are pesky gnat sized flies that bite people, they also lived near rivers and dry areas. They aren't as bad as mosquitoes but still very annoying.

I haven't seen a shark in the wild. I lived in the outback for most of my life and have never lived on the coastline for extended periods of time. The beaches in Australia will typically have surf lifesavers patrolling the coast line making sure shark attacks don't happen. Beaches are often closed if a shark is sighted. At the very popular beaches there will be a certified 'safty zone', it is easily picked out because it will between two yellow and red flags. If you swim between the flags, you will be generally safe from sharks, jellyfish and riptides (amongst other nasty things).
